I've tried a couple of times to get into EMH, but for some reason Tony's voice makes me all twitchy whenever I hear it, and Tony's one of my two favourite Avengers.

...any recommendations, f!s, for how to get past/used to a voice-actor that you don't like? Everybody says this show is awesome.

I had the same problem, and my dislike of his voice just kinda faded after I had watched a few episodes and gotten used to it. *shrugs*

But if you want an actual argument to tell yourself instead of just hoping your problem will go away...you can say that after the shock of his voice being so un-RDJ-ish wears off, it kinda suits his EMH personality — he's very very young, probably late twenties at most, and very intense and enthusiastic and spends all his time grinning and/or making wisecracks so the really sharp tone of his voice is kinda appropriate, even if it wouldn't be my first choice.

Oh man, same. ;_; But the series is good enough that I kept up at it, nevertheless. And it's not really the RDJ thing for me (since movie!Tony isn't my #1 Tony, and I imagine slightly different voices for differet verses anyway, that voice just hits a wrong harmonic somewhere in my brain. (Though admittedly, the random butt-of-jokes thing bothered me a lot more than the voice)

Somehow, for me, the random-butt-of-jokes thing is funny without being mean-spirited or disrespectful, and this is coming from someone who considers Tony at least one of her favorite characters. I think it's the fact that he's sort of the team's manager that kind of makes the butt-monkey treatment cute. Especially when everyone else keeps casually destroying his shit and he just groans over it in exasperation: "Why would you do that??!! The doors open automatically!" "You know, the stairs are right there." "Great, now my basement is flooded with radioactive waste. Thanks a lot, Thor."
