Was I the only one who thought maybe this was referring to recognition from actors/creators/etc.? I mean, there's a huge stigma on directing anyone in that sphere toward fanfic, whereas showing a piece of art tends to be met more often with admiration (barring porn/what have you that would up the awkward factor), at least in the instances I've heard about/seen.

And I feel that. It can be frustrating to see someone else get recognized for applying their talents to fandom endeavors when putting yours out there is, at best, going to get you awkward looks and probably a whole lot of hate from anyone else in fandom that might be in the vicinity (not that I'd be presenting my writing to anyone even if it were acceptable, because I'd probably keel over from embarrassment).
