OP, I actually live in Manhattan, and I feel like I know all of three people who would actually claim to relate to SATC characters (one of whom is a gay man), and they're all young enough that it's almost certainly a joke. I don't know where you got the idea that it actually represents like, an entire class of women, let alone the entire female heterosexual identity (and hey what about the lesbians, man) but I'm pretty sure most female fans of SATC don't necessarily identify with the characters.

That said, speaking of HBO shows, I need to stop meeting people who claim that "Girls" speaks for them. It depresses the shit out of me.
