I don't mean to question your identity, here, but for the honor of cis bi chicks everywhere, I do want to say that it is more than possible to be those things and find nothing at all to recognize or like in that show or any of those characters.

Also, I'm as uninterested in shoes as you are. If not more so.

people should really stop using tv shows/movies/shallow observations of other people as a measuring stick for their own a/sexuality

I want to say that show was weird, but I only saw one episode of it. They kept throwing the word "penis" around so much, it was like "I had some penis on top of my penis with a penis as side dish" aoidfaoidjf I just...

Also they said the word penis 15 times in less than one minute. (I was bored and started counting, okay?)

(Anonymous) 2012-07-29 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty much this.
I can't sit through this show because it's so alien to me, I can't even find the funny in it.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-29 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I find this show difficult to relate to because I don't get how Carrie can get all those men when she not only has a really irritating personality but SJP is HIDEOUS.

One of the biggest problems with this absolutely fucking terrible show is that the women represented in it do not represent the way "all the women in the world" have sex or want to talk about sex. About the only group it might have managed that for is "wealthy straight able-bodied cis white women who are really really worried about what men think of them."

Even if I weren't a lesbian I don't think I would relate to these characters, and tbf I don't think most women do. I don't want to have the sex these women do but I'm not asexual.

I really hate this show just for the simple fact that I can't relate to it at all. During the few parts of it I've seen, I just kept thinking, "Not all women are like that!" And they're not, so you're definitely not alone.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-29 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I happen to be very sexual and adore shoes, but still find the show completely unrelatable.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-29 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh DEAR, I'm asexual but I LOVE shoes - what does that make me??! *despair*

Seriously, gender stereotypes like 'loving shoes' don't have anything to do with your sexuality, You're probably aware of that, but still.

Hey, hey, hey.

Being asexual is perfectly acceptable. But I seriously pity you if you go through life without knowing the joys of shoe shopping.

Ok but
Sex in the City is not the best portrayal of female sexuality nor is it the only portrayal
That's great that you are asexual but PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD do not think that because I am female that Sex in the City speaks to my own sexuality or sexual experience because it really does not

This is why people need to learn how to tell the diffence between reality and fiction

And fuck you shoes are awesome, just not the ones that women on tv shows lust after (ugly heels and shit like that ugh) I mean finding those Anna Sui Hushpuppies I wanted for less than $80 was like a religious experience ok

(Anonymous) 2012-07-29 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow no means to question your identity, but this show DOES NOT portray what women in general think about sex. This show in particular presents what a small group of middle upper class, rich, white American women (who have no other worries in life apart sex) think about it. And in general THERE IS NO /ONE TRUE/ WAY women think about sex. It's more or less up to the individual and individual characteristics. Say I myself am quite prudish, and I would never talk openly about my or others' sex lives (yet I still consider myself well... sexual), but I have friends who have no trouble with that.

Jeez, you're probably the type to think that all men think about sex every three seconds too, since you know that's what the colorful box told you.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-29 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here, and not just this show but every show that involves women's sexuality. Also books that apparently make everyone wet do nothing for me. The only thing that makes me wet is two men having sub/dom sex which I don't see as applicable to me in real life.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-29 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Say what you will, but after the success of 50 Shades, I kind of wish Sex and the City would come to clean up. I dislike it too, but god, at least it features confident, successful women who aren't fucking clueless about sex and faux-modest.

seriously this secret made me laugh. i remember seeing a few episodes of this a while back, and my reaction was 'uhhh...there are women out there who actually relate to this show? lol really? no...really? o.O'. tbh sex in the city seems like it would appeal to women who are past their prime and feel like they missed out on something in the love department. i mean, that's probably not actually true, but yeah, i find that show nothing short of bizarre.
for the record i am very sexual and fucking love shoe and every other kind of shopping.

Okay, wait, where on earth are you getting the idea that every woman on the planet said YES! This is the way we live! regarding that show? Isn't that practically cliche about the show that it doesn't represent women in general?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-29 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
OP, the show was written by gay men. No woman actually thinks like that.

1) I hate this show. Hate hate hate hate hate it. The fire of a thousand burning suns cannot convey the level of hate I have for this show.

2) I hope this wasn't the only comparison you used to determine your lack of sexual interest.

3) This is not representative of the way ALL women feel about sex. It's annoying when people say that. Women aren't a big, homogenous group of shoe-shopping, penis-loving, rich, white, socialites.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-29 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
For some reason my mind replaced SITC with Desperate Housewives and I only realized halfway through reading the comment thread that this secret is actually about Sex In The city. LOL
Okay. It was only when I got closer to my sisters again, and basically met more women who are like me and my sisters, that I realized I was holding myself to an impossible standard of what women are supposed to be like.
Maybe you're asexual, maybe not. But don't let that show tell you what 'normal' women are like.

OP, I'm far from asexual but I can't watch that show. I loathe it. It makes me cringe and feel second-hand embarrassment.
In no way does it connect to how either me or my friends (female and male) conduct their lovelife, friendships or relationships.

I think most people on that show are horribly annoying.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-30 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I don't like to buy shoes either I have work shoes and day off shoes.

SITC is just a show. I for some reason watched it when i had HBO, and I really never liked any of the characters. Seriously, they are judgmental, slutty, whiny, kind of closed minded about some things and Carrie is the WORST dresser. Really do people dress like that on purpose?

I've never met a person who has ever said they "relate" to the characters. Women aren't like that and if there really is someone who is, I feel sorry for them.
