I don't really get it either, tbh. I mean, I'm glad people found a site they really like and everyone's having fun over there but it holds no appeal for me, personally. Though I suppose a lot of that has to do with my non-love of fan-art? I like pretty pictures but I don't really have the need to look at them all day? I'd prefer to read fic or meta or watch vids or have discussions. (I know all those things occur over on tumblr but not to the extent of LJ/DW.) I'm also FAR from an artist myself so I'm not sure what I could really add other than the occasional .gif set. Plus, my internet connection is SLOW and it HATES tumblr more than I do :D

But I'm not going to harsh anyone's squee so I'm glad other people dig it.

Yeah, I like fanart as much as the next person, but damn... all the pretentious graphics are really killing it for me. And by pretentious graphics I mean like... a photo of a character, turned all into shades of blue with the words "Heart of Ice" or something printed underneath. There's only so much of that I can take in a day, and tumblr... is 99% that, from what I can tell. T_T uugh It has the surprising effect of making me hate characters I used to love... wtf

HahahaHA those pictures you're talking about, the screen capture where someone fucked with some hue & saturation, and twiddled some curves? Plus a neato word/phrase underneath? Oh, and maybe a slapped on texture, because everyone loves textures.

they make me think of over-edited lj icons, except they make me clutch myself with second-hand embarrassment because they're no longer confined to 100x100px
i do not get the appeal, tumblr folk.
