Well, most fandom moved there. And, when people write essays/analisis/fics/fanart/etc, it's easier to share? /2cents

Although the liking option drives me nuts. I like way too many posts a day, and looking for them later is a nightmare.

I like it simply for the pretty graphics and fanart, but it does get boring quick. I overtly prefer interaction than what tumblr has to offer.

And also, unless your tags are annoyingly specific, how does anyone keep track of anything?

There are some good conversations sometimes and I do enjoy some aspects of tumblr. Like the tagging system makes it easier to get the fic/essays/graphics out to everyone who would be interested in that character.

But sometimes tumblr can feel like shouting at the void and there isn't that same feeling of discussion and discourse that other platforms give me.

Man, I feel like we need a Tumblr fandom primer that we can just point to. But to sum up - follow people who either produce stuff or reblog stuff in a narrow focus that you enjoy. If someone stops producing/reblogging what you enjoy, unfollow them. Check out certain tags to see everything on the entire site tagged with that. When posting yourself, make sure you use appropriate tags. Bam, done.

I love tumblr for making it so easy to find gifs and whatnot that I enjoy, but I just can't seem to make any connections on there within fandom. So I guess I agree up to a point.

A lot of people talk about how much their fandom is alive and fun and awesome on Tumblr but from my perspective it seems to be killing fandoms. I feel like such an old person when I say shit like that. /getoffamylawn

I love Tumblr for what it's worth. Pretty pictures and juicy wank. I must be missing the whole reblog deal because I generally only post my own stuff and it's rare I see the same thing more than once. Pick who you follow wisely, I guess?

Meh. It's good for jokes and sharing pretty pictures with your fandom friends and that's about it. It's fun when you have time for it, but yeah, there's not a whole lot of intelligent discussion going on.

It's great for small fandoms but it's harder to make a personal connection there because of all the character limits tumblr imposes. Also it skews really young which can be awkward. Every once in a while I realize I'm talking to someone who is 13 and it freaks me the fuck out because I'm over there reblogging hardcore pornography sometimes. Contributing to the delinquency of a minor is no joke where I live. It's a crime. I'd like some privacy controls for that reason.

Guess it depends on the fandoms and who you follow. Personally I love it over there, but then I check certain tags and lose the will to live. So it varies.

The best interactions I've had is the "give me a pairing/character/etc and I'll answer this question" things because that actually tends to start up discussions. I'm more of a fanfic/meta person in fandom, though, so a lot of Tumblr I don't find super-exciting.

I think the best thing about Tumblr is the fact that tags allow you to randomly stumble upon posts about XYZ fandom without you knowing the person at all (whereas in, say, DW or LJ you have to actively seek out communities for your fandoms and just HOPE AND PRAY that they're active). If I could combine the tumblr tags and easier discovery with a less image-based and more text-based culture like LJ, I'd be one happy clam. I'm not optimistic about it though.

Depends on the fandom and who's talking, really. Some places there's a lot of asks, comments on reblogs, and general interaction - I've had a lot of fun in the digimon fandom on Odaiba Memorial there, for instance. But other places it can be pretty silent.

I was skeptical at first, but it turns out that tumblr is lots of fun if you're a fanartist. My art gets loads more exposure and attention there than it has ever gotten on LJ, and it's fucking awesome to be in a place where I don't have to write fic to feel like I'm making a meaningful contribution to fandom.

i'm way more active on tumblr than anywhere else in fandom, since that's where everyone i know is, but i still hate it and wish we'd all just go back to livejournal or something.

Even though I follow fandoms on tumblr, I never participate. Too much wank for my liking, and everything is all over the place.
But it is convenient - everyone's up-to-date, and I can stalk fanart and fanfics without actually joining fandoms, y'know?

I mainly post photographs and personal art on my account - none of which has anything to do with fandoms, and it's easy to keep in touch with my IRL friends since I don't have Facebook or Twitter. It's very, very convenient.

I really really tried with Tumblr. I thought I had it. I followed part of Downton Abbey over there, found like-minded people to follow, sorted some favourite tags, and spent a month or so really enjoying it. Even found where people from my other fandoms were at over there. Great.

But Christ Jesus wading through the asinine, vapid, self-congratulatory bullshit is just too much.

I don't really get it either, tbh. I mean, I'm glad people found a site they really like and everyone's having fun over there but it holds no appeal for me, personally. Though I suppose a lot of that has to do with my non-love of fan-art? I like pretty pictures but I don't really have the need to look at them all day? I'd prefer to read fic or meta or watch vids or have discussions. (I know all those things occur over on tumblr but not to the extent of LJ/DW.) I'm also FAR from an artist myself so I'm not sure what I could really add other than the occasional .gif set. Plus, my internet connection is SLOW and it HATES tumblr more than I do :D

But I'm not going to harsh anyone's squee so I'm glad other people dig it.

The only thing I really love about tumblr is the gifsets. It's completely different than anything else — being able to watch a snippet of a scene with subtitles and no audio on insta-repeat so you can see the characters' body language and expressions and little reactions and movements and looks that you might've missed that can be cropped and zoomed and slowed down, and have them sitting right in front of you without needing to hit a play button or shift away from the accompanying text, instead of relying on memory or clunkily

A couple of cases in point — for the Avengers, I totally did not notice that utterly horrified/heartbroken look that flashed across Tony's face after Bruce mentioned that he tried to kill himself. Or the fact that Thor was in tears when Loki was mocking his feelings just before ejecting the cage. Stuff like that is just wonderful for fandom discussions and analyses.
