I like that I can post something, tag it appropriately and have hundreds or maybe even thousands of others see it in my fandom; it's like a community, except I don't have to join it, I don't have to go searching for the community name, and it's just overall easier. I joined tumblr in November 2011, and I haven't posted anything of merit to my LJ now in months.

It's just...easier overall, I guess? I post probably 80% original content and 20% reblogs now, so I suppose that's where a lot of the fun comes--but I also post lots of text-only posts or replies to asks, because people want to interact with me. No one wanted to do that really on LJ anymore, plus all the changes lost me. Not sure what's confusing about tumblr for you--it took me all of a few hours to really understand how it works, and now it's where I spend all the time I used to spend on LJ.

It's also hella more active than LJ in my fandoms, and I have 3 times as many followers on tumblr as I do friends on LJ. I guess it just facilitates me doing more for fandom, and ergo I enjoy it more.

I hate it because nobody there wants to interact with me, and on the rare occasions when they try, the platform won't let me respond to their comments.

I have things set up so that people can reply to my posts, but I found that I can't reply back. How are all these conversations happening? In asks, so that nobody but the two of you can converse? In copy-paste-->reblog form, so that every new part of the conversation is a new post and the people who follow you are getting spammed with this stuff? I have yet to find a workable way to actually talk to anyone over there, or to join an ongoing conversation; in fact I see very few conversations ever happening, and when I do, I can't follow them.

I believe that some people are somehow managing to have real discussions, but I wish one of them would screencap that, with circles and arrows and "This is how to make sense of these seemingly unrelated, out-of-chronological-order remarks."

I've learned how to use a lot of different platforms and I still learn new stuff all the time, but Tumblr just makes me frustrated and lost.

For replying back, you can get a greasemonkey script to enable replying back, but it's really just a new text post that automatically includes the text from the person you're replying to. The alternative (or additonal idea) is to reblog the text when you want to reply to someone.

That's really the only thing I don't like about tumblr, how it doesn't facilitate conversations, but I actually kind of like that people who want to follow your conversation with someone else passively can see it updating on their dash if they're following you, so I've gotten used to it and even kind of like it.

tl;dr - just reblog it. People can see your comments in the original post if you add new text. That's how everyone does it :)

It's all very 'in the moment', though, and if you're following a lot of people, it's VERY easy to get lost and behind and be unable to catch up.

People tend want to interact with you more (MORE, which is relative of course XD;) if you're providing stuff to fandom, whether to thank you or ask questions or whatever (personal experience, though).

Aaand this is why I cant get the fun.

See I was having fun with my character analysis, nice comments and in Tumblr no one gives a shit about this. They all want gif, nice PS and fanart and I can't really give this to them so I'm out of fandom. I wish there is a community system so we can fangirl in a more non-squee way.

Maybe it depends on your fandom? Mine are dead on LJ and alive and kicking with meta and discussion on tumblr. That's why I can't understand how people 'don't get' tumblr. I've had nothing but great experiences in all my fandoms on it and am more involved in older fandoms that long ago died on LJ.

Sorry, I think I was just bitching about my own experience. My fandom died in LJ too and 2010-2011 era in Tumblr was GOLDEN but now it is all dead in there too.

Moving to another fandom in Tumblr is difficult, since you have to start from zero all over again.
