tumblr IS fandom in a post-facebook world...people don't want to participate, don't want to converse, they just want to LIKE things (even when they don't)

it's a fact that most people lie about themselves on FB to seem more interesting to others...that kind of self-affirmation through vapid means was bound to have a flow-on effect

why bother putting in the time to form relationships when you can just like and reblog to fill your time?

I think this sums up all my feelings about fandom and current social networking right now very well. Tumblr, at least, is less nightmarish to me than Twitter or Facebook, but talking to people in likes, reblogs, and flash posts seems to make it really hard to actually discuss and interact.

Personally, this suits me. I've never been interested in forming relationships in fandom. I'm just there to read, post fanart, read meta/discussions, maybe write something myself...but relationships? Not interested at all.

It's nice to finally have a medium (tumblr) where people don't care if I reply to their comments on my art/reviews of my fics. Communication isn't the main thing for tumblr, sharing things is.
It's kind of anonymous and I just appreciate not having the pressure to be BFF with people in fandom.
