Well, I see tumblr as a place to view pictures and the odd interesting .gif or interview. I'm not really in the fandom side myself, I just follow some people with similar interests and enjoy what they post.
I don't see what you've mentioned much - I'm pretty careful about watching original creators and artists. I'm not keen on reblogging accounts.

Think of it as a place to collect things that interest you. Like is the private option - no-one can really see your collection of things.

However if you want it public you reblog things. Sometimes with a commentary, normally in the hashtags.

Tumblr is not good for communication thought. I hate the messaging system personally.
