Re: Petty Grudges You've Held Since Childhood

Hoooooly fuck. I really hope he's been fired since then. And that he never had another student with medical problems.

And then I scroll down and see he's still teaching there. Ugh. My grade school had a thing for keeping crappy teachers, too. There was(and still is) one 3rd grade teacher who was so horrible she got complaints from pretty much every parent every year. I had her, and a classmate's younger brother who had her the year after us was so scared he actually threw up every morning before school.

She was pretty damn dismissive of her students' problems, too, and I'm sure she would've pulled the same shit your teacher did. I'm hearing impaired, and at the time I used an FM device in school. the kid wears a receiver box with ear pieces, and the teacher is supposed to wear a clip-on box with a microphone so when they talk, the student can hear them like they're right there instead of across the room, etc. She refused to use it because she "didn't have time for that". Meanwhile it took all of two seconds to clip-on the microphone...

When she was changed to a 5th/6th grade math teacher, she started slamming kids into walls during class. Thank fucking god I was in 7th the first year of that.

Oh my god that's awful. Wtf? How much time does it take to clip on a little mic thing? Shit. I honestly don't know why some people become teachers.

And slamming kids into walls? That lady should have been fired and maybe put on meds or something. Holy shit.

Hmm, well, you were old enough to HAVE ALDs like FM devices, etc. Try being the only deaf (not Deaf) kid mainstreamed in a public school who was actually smarter than the teachers (7th grade, the teacher let us watch TV all day. Not even "educational" TV. Just TV.) and having to constantly fight for a seat at the front of the class. Never mind getting them to turn around when they talked.

So, I devoured every page of every textbook that was handed out (helps that I was a speed reader, hah), and cruised through all the tests, despite "poor class performance" remarks (whereas I always got "Excellent" in that category, in the INCLUSIVE public school I attended from K-2) and the teachers hated me even more. Especially when I would zone out because I was bored out of my mind, the teacher would call on me, thinking I hadn't heard them (I hadn't), but I would still be able to answer correctly, because I'd read ahead in the book.

So, yeah, I was bullied by the teachers, and that attitude carried on down through the kids.

Funny thing is, though, I don't hold any grudges about it...even though I'd probably be justified in some respects...it's just not worth it. Life is too short, and the school system is only an insignificant part of the bigger picture. Of course I say this at thirty years' remove, so.

I do credit the experience for making me the bullheaded, won't-take-no or you-telling-me-I-can't-do-something-is-just-ASKING-for-me-to-open-a-can-of-kick-on-your-backside person that I am today. But maybe that's not a good thing....
