and i've never even seen sherlock but i'm pretty sure moffat said point-blank he was not asexual

same anon - the last part was in response to "clear as day, how can ANYONE DISAGREE," not the simple fanon belief that he's ace.

Oh, BTW, Moffat is only one of three writers on the show (honestly, it just bugs me when people act like Moffat is the end-all, be-all of Sherlock BBC. He's not). So what he writes might be canon, but it's not the only canon. I've not heard anything about how Gatiss or Thompson feel about the subject of Sherlock's sexuality, but have you considered they might not agree with Moffat?

Maybe Sherlock is only sexual in Moffat's episodes but asexual in Gatiss or Thompson's? (Which would be really complicated for the character, I guess...)

TBH, I don't see him as asexual, but I can see where the idea comes from, and I think it's as valid as any other... unless Gatiss and Thompson also agree with Moffat about Sherlock's sexuality (Hopefully for less idiotic reasons)

Considering how misunderstood asexuality is as an orientation, I seriously doubt Gatiss or Thompson feel Sherlock is definitely (and accurately) asexual. That's the sad, hard truth.

But then again, who really cares? Fandom does what fandom does.

NART - I agree with you, generally speaking, about people throwing all of their criticism (or all of their praise) at Moffat like he's the only writer working behind the scenes. But specifically to this secret, I think it's relevant that Moffat has stated that Sherlock isn't asexual since Moffat wrote the conversation OP references as making it obvious that Sherlock is asexual.

Actually, my point was that everyone acts like his word is the only word that matters.

But yes, he is the one who wrote the episode that that line come from. Which is ironic, given that he's the one writer for the show who has expressed his opinion on Sherlock's sexuality, and he's said he's not asexual. And yet, he writes dialogue like that... Heh.
