My best friend got it on with her 58 year old teacher and five years later they are still dating. She's perfectly fine. Through her I met more girls who were dating their ex teachers and they're all fine, thank god the moral panic there in America doesn't exist here.

See, the thing, at least in my part of the US, is less 'OMG, YOU'RE DATING YOUR TEACHER' in general and more 'OMFG, YOU'RE UNDERAGE, AND DATING SOMEONE WHOSE GOT THE POWER TO MAKE YOU PASS/FAIL'.

So not exactly the same issue you seem to think it is, since well...Most people? Might be a little uncomfortable if you're dating a former teacher*, but they aren't likely to make a huge deal out of it as long as you're not considered a minor, and they aren't currently your teacher.

You do have to remember that the US' age of consent it is generally something like 3 years higher than it is in France [which...iirc is like, 15, yeah?] So it's not just social issue most of the time, it's also a legal issue.

*Though, if it's a former college professor, then people are even less likely to be uncomfortable about it.

I once got it on with a teacher, but it was a one-time thing and it never went further than that. I imagine dating one's own teacher would be quite awkward... Not that I condemn it or anything.

I think dating a teacher *while* you're dating can be problematic, especially if you are in a classroom setting where others can be made to feel awkward. Once you're not that person's student anymore, though, I don't see why people make such an issue out of it.

I knew (I don't see her anymore at all) a woman who started dating, after graduation, someone who worked at the school (not QUITE a teacher, but close to one). They didn't date at all before she graduated, and they're still married 7 years later (and they only had about 10 years age difference, nothing big) but the moral outrage was so strong that the guy had to leave his job, which was a real bummer since he was a super great guy and everyone loved him.

Idk, while I kind of get it, with circumstances the way they were (small age difference, dating after graduation, very discrete about it) I wish he didn't have to leave his job.
