I mean, isn't this the main argument of the Sherlock fandom?? I'm only tangentially involved, but I was under the impression that this battle is, like, epic.

Yeah, I wound up leaving the main comm on lj because everything was all "asexy" wank all the time.The thing everyone states first off is if they ship Sherlock/John romantically or platonically. I don't know if the overall fandom is split 50/50 but I think lj/AO3 certainly are.

Overall fandom is DEFINITELY not 50/50 for platonic v romantic. Most people in the fandom are Sherlock/John shippers in a romantic sense, and it's regarded as very odd if you do not ship them that way.

Now, asexual v sexual? That IS more up for debate, and I do think that one has a more even split. There is wank over that and all the implications of that.

Usually though even asexual!Sherlock is having sex with John in fic, so people are usually just arguing over the principle of the thing, which is dumb.

I think I'm using romantic vs platonic the same way you're using sexual vs asexual. Obviously the people who ship the with other people/just consider them good friends are in the minority.

Yeah. . .I'm using sexual/asexual because romantic/platonic is not the same as sexual/asexual. You can have a romantic relationship without sex.
(You probably knew that, but I'm just saying that's why I used it.)
(I am the latter who ships them as platonic or romantic BFFs. Jim/Sherlock all the way guh why is that such a rare pair.)

Well, how canon ships them. Sherlock is intrigued and aroused by Jim's intellect but also hates himself for that because Jim is a threat to his loved ones and Jim is utterly obsessed with Sherlock and hates that Sherlock's loved ones are totally in the way and are making him ~good~ and guh the twisted relationship and the ANGST and possible non-con. I'm not so much "They're in a conventional relationship and betraying John" so much as 'they're pining and hate themselves for it/ Jim's finally had enough of Sherlock's shit & is fucking with him'

This wonderful/horrible dynamic just DOES things to me.

I swing both ways here baby! But I just feel like John is standing in a corner demanding to know why I'm encouraging them. So mostly I just like daydreaming about what a sick mess Jim is over Sherlock because inner!John doesn't seem to care about that.

Ugh I know I get John guilt too. Because John and Sherlock are ALSO meant to be but their dynamic is so drastically different. Jim and Sherlock are like the same person almost and they flit at and flirt with each other like um. . .

Guh this description does things to me. But they can't ever touch for too long. Both are too volatile and terrified of themselves that being around another person that's the same is both thrilling and attracting and terrifying.

But then John is complimentary to Sherlock. He slots into the gaps in Sherlock's personality and life. They can touch because they were meant to, they were supposed to, and it shouldn't work but it does because they fill up each other's gaps. They're not scared of each other, they're just home.

I've always thought Jim and John are like two substances who react to the same stimuli (Sherlock)in two completely different, but similarly fascinating, ways. Though it's not like anyone would have a neutral reaction to Sherlock, they just have my favorite reactions?

Guh Jim and John and Sherlock just thinking about all of their twisted dynamics makes me happy inside. Everyone on BBC Sherlock is so utterly fucked up. I love it!
