I feel like there were always certain fandom/kind of secrets that if you didn't want to see red you just stayed away from- like despite me being a GoT fan I stayed the fuuuuck out of yesterdays thread. There's just something about creator wank in general, really. (and I say this as someone who genuinely dislikes the creators of some of their fandoms, but would never post something saying Creator X Is A Insert Slur Here)

Honestly, I think they're two different cases.

Rick truly tried to make amends (even if he went about it wrong, trying to get Terri's friends to like him). CB only went to counseling because he was sentenced to it and only said he was sorry because he was "supposed" to in order to get his career back. The worst CB ever got was blacklisted for about six months, and he still had tons of support. He certainly wasn't set up to be humiliated on tv. Rick had an organized bullying campaign against him that involved the entire school (minus a handful of people) hitting and shoving, destroying his personal belongings, etc. Plus, he never tried to act like what he did was no big deal, and he certainly never insinuated that Terri was at fault for what happened to her. I think Rick already had psychological issues and the paint and feathers thing pushed him over the edge.

The Hobbit movie will revive this, and most fandoms have both movie and book fans, so go for it!

He's the big bad brooding figure, and you'll notice his burns are almost always minimized in shipping fanart.

Re: Hair washing question

[identity profile] childings.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
A couple of times a week. This is normal for people with curly hair and I've been told by more than one hairdresser that I shouldn't wash it any more often than that. I just put the bangs back with a bobby pin when it's straight, if I think it looks too oily, or if I'm letting it go natural I might run my head under a faucet and let the curls reset. I also try to avoid sulfate shampoos (though the one I'm currently using apparently has sulfates, I didn't read the label well enough OOPS) because it's rough on the hair and tends to make it look frizzier

Of course I don't really know what kind of hair you have... I've never had mine chemically straightened and I'm not sure what you mean by that. Do you mean like a perm or a relaxer or what?

What's wrong with him wanting something that everyone else does in a marriage? He didn't have a say in marrying Sansa, he was forced into it almost as much as she was. Who wouldn't want the person they're supposed to spend the rest of their lives with and have children with to have SOME sort of good feelings towards them?

I guess he could have warned Sansa but he had barely any interaction with her before then. And I can't recall Lancel doing anything to Sansa. Not saying it didn't happen but I honestly can't remember. Additionally at the time Lancel was pretty much in a coma so while Sansa would still have to be married to him, she wouldn't have to deal with him much.

How did Tyrion want to stop Sansa from marrying Willas? Tywin pretty much concocted the whole scheme after finding out about it in order to stop the Tyrells from gaining that much power. He simply used Tyrion to seal the deal.

Try using a clarifying shampoo once a week if your hair is really fine and oily

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
The why matters

Good to know. I guess the fact that Tywin caused the Red Wedding as a way to win without further bloodshed mitigates the fact that Catelyn and Robb were butchered.5

Gratuitous angsty death-fic recs?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Can I have some recs about lots of characters angsting in intimate melodramatic detail about another character's canonical death? (And I'd really prefer LOTS of characters — I don't want that one ~special character grieving and no one else giving a shit in order make that ~special character seem more ~special, I want ALL the dead!characters numerous friends to be devastated) I just want to wallow in delicious pain. And would really prefer it not to be because character who were supposed to be likable were dickholes.

Some dead!characters I would love: James and Lily Potter, Fred Weasley, Spock (during that period between Wrath of Khan and Search for Spock), Qui-Gon Jinn, Henry Blake, Ted Kord, Superman or Batman (before they de-deadified themselves) the Jadzia part of Jadzia Dax, Data, Tasha Yar, anyone who got Whedon'd (especially Joyce, Tara, Wash, or Coulson.)

Um....especially Coulson. ;)

i do like chelley as a pairing but their relationship is so easy to work into the rest of the story of portal, and the story behind portal is, like i said, pretty deep (at least imo). portal 2 was such a great concept and it covered so many elements that i think people overlook because they're so invested in shipping. and it kinda makes me sad because so many of those people are missing out on a really great thing.

Re: Sex question?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Not exactly. I think it would better be described as one track minded. It depends on the mood and person, but if you're in a particularly passionate mood some logic and reason can be thrown out the window. It's not like being unaware, but more that you don't care. With someone who's in the same mood and mindset you tend to feed off each other. It's kind of like when you're out with friends and you're all in a fantastic mood, so you might talk louder and be silly out in public and not give a shit who else is around. Normally on your own you'd probably refrain yourself, but you're feeding off their energy.

Re: Hair washing question

[personal profile] unicornherds 2012-08-11 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Depends on my hair style/length. When I had dreads, shaved head, or my mohawk I shampooed a lot less than I do now with straight long hair. I think now it's probably every 3 days or so. Sometimes more sometimes less, depending on weather, activity level, and that type of thing.

I think there's no real right or wrong amount, it just depends on your hair type and what you're comfortable with.

Yeah, abusing Terri definitely wasn't right, but I didn't think the bullying campaign was right either. I'm not saying they should have liked him, but I think ignoring him would have made the point just as well, and he wouldn't have showed up at school with a gun.

Oh man my mouth is telling me I'm hungry but my stomach is saying no, mouth is a liar.

I kind of want those eyedroppers for my boobs. Going for a run, nonexistant boobs! Flirting with that cute nerd at the library, biggest boobs!

Same, anon. :( I adore Skeeter and think she's a great foil to both Scooter and Piggy.

Like another poster, I'd rec the Boom! Muppet comics. Skeeter gets to shine in the "Family Reunion" arc.

Eh, don't sweat it. I read a lot more fanfic than books now a days, and it's mostly because i can find so *few* books that are actually interesting. I read summaries and scan some pages and omg, it's just *boring*. So boring.

I still re-read my favorite books and authors all the time, but most of my 'new' reading is fic. It is what it is.

and we started talking about Tywin... when? Tywin's an asshole - that's pretty clearly established as soon as he's mentioned.

YES. Oh man, I love the parts of the MsScribe story that talked about the Gryffindor Tower vs Fiction Alley vs Sugar Quill wars :D

Re: Semi-kink kinda?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
A kink is definitely not always sexual. I'm asexual and I have several kinks. It's really hard to describe the sensation and feelings I get from kinky play, but it's definitely not sexual. It's...cathartic, relaxing, exciting...I don't even know. Just seeing pictures of or thinking about wrist cuffs makes my stomach dance in that happy nervous excited way, and putting them on just automatically makes me happy. Almost drunk kind of happy.

So yeah I'd definitely say this could be called a kink if that's what you want to go with. I'm not that knowledgeable about pain kink and the like, so not sure how that works but it sounds like a kink to me.

Just touching my clit, nothing in the vagina. I just heard stories about losing tampons and having to fish around for them and I do not want to do that if my muscles will draw it deeper when I finish.

Re: Personal Hygiene

[identity profile] childings.livejournal.com 2012-08-11 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
If you have pimples down there it could be that your pants are too tight or something is chafing down there and causing friction to occur, which can give you bumps (boils?) that look like pimples

Also of course it could be regular acne that's caused the same way... if you aren't already you should be wearing cotton underwear

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yes but as you said the 'why' matters.

If Jaime's tossing a child out of a window is mitigated by him looking out for his children, then Tywin's slaughter should be mitigated by the fact that he was trying to win the war in a way that saved more lives and not out of any personal rage.

[personal profile] unicornherds 2012-08-11 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Skeeter was fucking awesome. No bones about it. You know they put her in last minute to balance out Miss Piggy? Because there was only one female Muppet Baby and the creators felt that there needed to be more role models for young girls other than just the super fem bossy Piggy.

I just looked up Skeeter on the Muppets wiki, and one of the creators says that she went off to school for Archaeology and was on an expedition to the jungle when last heard from, and just disappeared. I like to imagine Skeeter's not in any of the movies because she's off having the most amazing super secret badass archaeologist adventures. Way better than making musicals in Manhattan.
