For me, neither felt like Peter Parker. How hard is it to cast an actual New Yorker to play the part of one of the ultimate New Yorkers? You can't fake being from the city. You either are or you aren't. No amount of acting is going to help you.

Fine, tell me a non-New York actor who can pull off being from New York well?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-14 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
i don't know enough about actors--i thought you were just referring to actual people, bc i'm a native new yorker from three generations of natives, and there are people i meet who have only been in new york for a year that i think are native, and people i meet who've lived here all their lives who i think aren't.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-14 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's really not that hard :\

When I'd been in NYC for a year, people I met thought I was from there. I've lived here for 3+ years now and pretty much everyone I know who didn't meet me before I moved here thinks I'm from here, lol.

i dunno, i've met people who've been here a while but not natives that you can tell something just didn't click in them. good fur yew, tho, seriously.

LOL speshul snowflake applied to being a New Yorker. That's a new one.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-14 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
New Yorkers all believe they're special snowflakes. That's why they have to live on islands and peninsulas, away from the rest of us.

Okay, that was stupid comment. I don't know who should feel worse. You for having written it or me having to read it.

I think you meant the opposite : you should feel bad for having written your comment, if it's not a troll.

It's the actors' job to pretend to be someone they're not. Serial killers, nuns, gay, straight, people from different countries, different species even, elves, wizards, androids even.
And you're saying that the one thing that an actor can't possibly pull off is being a New Yorker? That's ridiculous.

Also I'm fairly sure that New Yorkers come in different flavors. Shy or bold, smart or stupid, entitled douches or reasonable ones...
