Personally, I agree that Tobey was better, but wow, you really didn't have to say it in such a douchey way. Some people haven't watched the older films or read the comics, and they might've enjoyed Garfield!Peter (or they might've enjoyed him anyway, even though he was different).

Edit: and really, even though Tobey was a much better Peter, he wasn't that close to comics!Peter and no closer to comics!Spider-Man than Andrew.

Andrew Garfield's long-ass neck is so distracting to me. I don't think I'll be able to get past it if I ever see this movie. At least Toby isn't distractingly goofy-looking?

Meh. I liked Andrew Garfield better as Spidey, but that could also be because Toby Maguire looks almost exactly like my enormous douchebag of a brother, and it's really distracting. :|

Really? It's the opposite for me: I can imagine 616!Spidey's lines and actions with Andrew Garfield much easier than with Maguire.

I haven't seen the Spider-Man reboot so I can't comment on which one I liked more, but the Maguire Spider-Man films were...pretty damn bad imo with some fun moments here and there.

personally i just thought garfield was awful, period. just baaaad acting and a particularly annoying character. i don't know whether his performance or maguire's was closer to 'spider-man', but maguire was much more tolerable either way.

For me, neither felt like Peter Parker. How hard is it to cast an actual New Yorker to play the part of one of the ultimate New Yorkers? You can't fake being from the city. You either are or you aren't. No amount of acting is going to help you.

I can see how Tobey Macguire was more classic Spidey, but to me he wasn't Spider-man either. With Andrew, well, I found that take *interesting*. It might not have been *my* Spidey, but frankly I prefer it if things aren't rehashed to death (especially since the reboot was so soon after the other films).

So while Tobey might indeed be truer to the original character, I found Andrew more interesting to watch.

hmm... I think Toby makes a better Peter Parker, whereas Andrew made a better Spiderman. If that makes sense.

(I also think Christian Bales makes a terrible Batman but an awesome Bruce Wayne, but that's not really the point here haha)

I haven't seen the new movie yet, so can't compare them, but I've never ever liked Tobey Maguire as Peter. Just...no. It's always been one of those things for me where I keep thinking "I would love this if they just hadn't cast _________." I'm not overly fond of Kirsten Dunst either, but it's not quite as bad with her.

Ugh, I think part of the reason I have no desire to see the reboots is because Toby Maguire and Kirsten Dunst turned me off of Spiderman so badly.

I actually really liked Andrew Garfield as Spiderman. He's a very talented actor and I was excited to see him in the role. I never really connected with Toby Maguire, he was ok, but I never really connected with his portrayal.

Can't people just be happy that we have two live-action versions to compare and contrast and enjoy?
