Gentlemen of F!S and Emasculated versions of "manly" foods

[personal profile] mekkio 2012-08-14 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I came across this at Buzzfeed, 18 emasculated versions of "manly" foods.

The one that made me go, WTH is this;

A cheeseburger pie.

Now most of guys I know would look at that and go, "Cheeseburgers come in pie form? HELL YEAH! GIMMEE!" (Dean Winchester would do so at least.) In fact, I think combining the two makes them even more manly. Like, finally, a pie you can have a beer to.

So, I ask you, gentlemen of F!S, am I wrong? Is a cheeseburger pie emasculating or not? Would you eat it with gusto or avoided it like the plague?

Ladies of F!S, what do you think as well? Would your boyfriends, sons, husbands, guy friends, brothers, uncles, dads and male so ons eat this or would they think of it as too emasculating?

I'm a girl and I'd definitely eat this!

Yes, but would the guys in your life eat it as well?

All the guys I know would be on this like white on rice. I don't get the emasculation either. Is it because it has a garnish or what? Confusing. All of those things look super delicious, though, and I am hungry now.

Same xD

It's 2AM now, I should not contemplate cooking...

you'd have to be a vegetarian/vegan not to want to eat this. I think most people I know would want to eat this. It looks better than most fast food *drool*

p.s. make it even more manly with crumbled bacon on top :)

Those things all look delicious but I'm loling at the thought of some dude serving those hamburger brownie cookies at a super bowl party

Dude 1: THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME

Dude 2: HELL YEAH, LET'S DO THIS

Dude 1: WE GOT BEER, CHIPS, NACHOS, BARBEQUE...AND I MADE THE NEATEST LITTLE BROWNIE HAMBURGER COOKIES :D

Dude 2: Wait what

Dude 1: :D

Dude 2:...yeah whatever, give me the brownies

I don't know why men wouldn't want to eat this at all...is food really manly? lmao, I don't get that.

The picture is making me hungry though! And my father and brother would love this; they don't give a fuck as long as it's good.

Forget the pie. I need meatloaf cupcakes in my life. I'll marry the first person to oblige.

(as a "lady of FS")

That's food. If it tastes good, I'll eat it. I don't care about the rest.

Actually, where I live, men and women alike enjoy making their (delicious) food look good. It's not particularly strange, nor emasculating. Many restaurants make it a point to serve good meals that look appetizing and/or different than what you'd expect. Many chefs are men and are more easily respected by their peers than women (even though women are traditionally associated with cooking), but it's changing, slowly.

Is it bad that this made me think of Dean even before I got to the point where you mentioned him? I spend way too much time in fandom.

Anyway, I'm a girl and I'd definitely eat it. And the only guy I know who wouldn't eat it is my dad because he's a health freak and only eats organic vegan shit but I think pretty much every other guy I know would eat it with no problem. I doubt whether or not it was "emasculating" would even cross their minds.

I'm confident enough in my masculinity not to find any foods emasculating. And frankly, I find the whole concept, that one's masculinity is so fragile a single quiche will shatter it, a little insulting.

No, make that a lot insulting. Let's not gender everything in the whole fucking universe, eh? Cause peel all this back and you're just going to end up with good old 'eww girl things' at the heart of it.

I looked at the link, and I figure those 'pancake sausage muffins' are just a slight variation on toad-in-the-hole, and there is nothing unmanly about toad-in-the-hole. I mean. The name alone.

I don't get the big deal. Minced beef and onion is a standard pie filling anyway, this just has cheese too right? Is adding cheese manly? IDGI.

Cheeseburger pie's a food group in the South.

That looks awesome. Girl though, so I can't really say whether or not it's emasculating, just that I'd eat it in a heartbeat.

Here in Australia, beef pie is like the national dish.
A CHEESEBURGER pie would add MAXTREME manliness.

Cheeseburger pie sounds like an awesome idea.

The whole idea of manly food, on the other hand, is pretty silly. It all looks the same in the end anyway. =|

How could food be emasculating? The only food I can think of that might be considered emasculating by anyone would be, like, one of those cakes that looks like a dress with a Barbie in the middle.

You mean, as opposed to all the other pies that go great with the right kind of beer? I think Apple could be paired with a good porter.

Okay, originally I thought this was just a recent wave of beer commercials mistaking class-signals for gender-signals to sell working-class guys low-calorie beer and nasty processed jerky, but here it is again.

Food is not a gendered thing. Boy-stomachs do not work differently from girl-stomachs. None of the taster-gene variations I know of are sex-linked traits. You can be the comfort-foodiest of home cooks or the hautest of high-cuisine chefs no matter what you've got between your thighs or how you present. So what's up with the 'emasculated' food thing?

Quiche is tasty, yo.

Evidently the men I know must be strange because they would eat that shit up. (Okay, one of them might not, but he's really picky about food in general and doesn't like anything "weird.")

Some of those, I'm poking at the recipes for. Cherry jello shots? Creme brulee martini? HELL YES.

All the men I know would love this shit. I mean, pancake sausage muffins and bacon bouquet. That is just brilliant.

I can't really tell how this is made - is it actual pie crust or bread or what? My SO would probably not eat it because he doesn't like casseroles at *all*, of any kind. Don't ask me why, he just doesn't. His mom has made 'Frito pie' occasionally and he won't touch that, either.

It looks...okay, but the thing i like about cheeseburgers besides, cheeseburgers, is the tomato and onion, and this doesn't look like it has that. Though i could be wrong.

*goes to investigate*
