OP
I'm not saying it was a cultural difference. I'm saying it seems to me like more of a... a difference in essence, in nature. A human can't ever really be the avatar of a concept, but Loki pretty much is, and he does seem to know it on some level. Equally, Odin stands for wisdom, good judgement, that kind of thing; from a purely logical perspective, he's not going to be big on Loki's bullshit. For instance, in the animated 'Tales of Asgard,' which I watched recently, Odin was very measured in the way he treated Jotun, but all the rest of his people plainly regarded them as monsters. Odin isn't necessarily showing 'humanity;' he's acting in a way which protects his realm, as the peace he's made with Jotunheim is precarious.

No. This "avatar of a concept" stuff has no bearing whatsoever in the movieverse. Not even in a Doylist way, and CERTAINLY not in-universe. How does Loki seem to be "aware" of that? (and btw, if he is "aware" of that, he's bullshitting himself to justify his actions). I dare you to say the character of Thor is a concept, and not a sentient being who might not be exactly like humans, but has a life and a consciousness and a personality and who goes through life learning and acting based on his experiences.

And nope, Loki is not a "concept". He is a person — not necessarily a human person, but a person nonetheless — who has a pretty human-esque (albeit pretty insane) logical sequence of events that cause his behavior. He was jealous of Thor. He resented Thor. He wanted to be Thor's equal. He wanted to make Odin proud. He had an identity crisis after realizing he was actually a Jotun. He tried to commit genocide to prove his worth. He tried to kill himself (sorta). He hooked up with Thanos and the Chitauri to conquer Midgard because he wanted to rule a realm and rub it in Thor's face.

No existential "I AM THE EMBODIMENT OF CHAOS AND I HAVE TO BE CHAOTIC FOR NO REASON" stuff. No fourth-wall-breaking self-awareness. He's no frickin' Deadpool. He has very human-esque motivations for what he does. That's why so many people can sympathize with him. What. The hell. Loki, a "concept"? I'm sorry, but this is even more complete and utter basis-less headcanon pulled straight from nowhere than that idiotic Tony Stark secret from a couple days ago.
