Sure, Walt wants to protect his family, but it's absolutely not the main thing that drives him at all, and you're either incredibly naive or don't understand the show in the slightest if you think otherwise.

I've actually read a lot of SJ-related stuff. While there is some good stuff out there, the vast majority of it that gets passed around is bullshit like the peeps on SF_Drama post, or Melissa McEwan's shit.

I'm not going to read this thread because it'll probably depress and/or anger me, so sorry if this is a repeat comment.

Everybody in the world has privilege. It's not something to be ashamed of or saddened by, it's something to be aware of. Here, let me quote someone at you:

By which I mean, at this point in the narrative, anything Walt does to protect his family is just him cleaning up a mess that he started in the first place.

People aren't EVILLY HATING ON WALT, honest to god. This is WHO HIS CHARACTER IS. The whole Mr Chips to Scarface thing has been drummed into us so many times that it's almost a cliche, but people still seem to take offence when you point out that, right now, Walt is the villain. He's a compelling character, he's well written, he's brilliantly played. And he's a fucking scumbag who makes me furious almost all the time he's onscreen. It's not like people dislike Walt for crazy reasons that they're pulling out of thin air. People dislike Walt because of who he is and the bad things he's done.

Not that Walt's whole protect the family schtick isn't arguably still a motivator for him, but at this point he's changed so much as a human being that his whole attitude towards the family that he wants to protect is warped. He's basically holding Skyler hostage and he's EATING JUNIOR'S BREAKFAST. What next? Is he going to steal baby Holly's lovely pink romper? I WOULDN'T PUT IT PAST HIM.

It's okay. Maybe one day you'll become a better person and be more open minded.

I know exactly what you mean. While I acknowledge my privilege, this whole movement has made me devalue myself more than I normally would. I have passed up opportunities because I felt like I would only have them due to my privilege and have given things up because I felt that oppressed people deserved them more than me. I can't look at myself in the mirror without hating what I am and have often wondered if I was "born evil".

I would say Iron Man having Jarvis pay for Aunt May's hospital bill was a nice bit

I didn't plant tomatoes this year, but the last couple of years I would pick them when they were still mostly green and let them ripen indoors on the counter or window sill because they always got eaten by bugs or raccoons or whatever if I left them to get fully red.
