The thing I don't really like about many fic that involve asexuality is that they're almost always "cured" of it by the end by the magic healing cock of their one true love. Can't they be ace and still be in a relationship? Couldn't they be in a relationship *gasp!* without sex? Or hell, maybe they do have sex but the ace individual doesn't particularly enjoy it. I just don't like how it is always treated like some illness that has to be cured by the end.

Honestly, when I write a character, I write them as the character and not as their sexuality.

If the character is ace and ISN'T having sex, then it's made into this big deal in the fic too, like not having sex is this terrible thing, or if they do have sex it has to be this big deal. . .

There should be an ace sherlock fic where Sherlock and John start to angst and overanalyze the issue but then forget about it forever because in the middle of their conversation something starts on fire in the kitchen.

Yes! This! Or it's this huge secret that's dragged out throughout the whole fic and there's all these Very Serious Moments where the characters have to confess about being asexual and then have Very Serious Negotiations about sex.

"I don't know how I feel about it."
"Ok well we can: do it anyway because I love you/you can suffer through just not doing it/you can have sex with other people as long as you stay faithful to me."

"Ok now I'm going to go dissect a brain."
"Awesome."

I read a good Loki/Doom piece where Loki keeps trying his seductions on Doom, and Doom's like, yeah whatever, no, and they never fuck, or have any serious negotiations about sex. They just hug and plot each other's downfalls.

I think this describes the reason why I'm so iffy about reading ace fic. I don't feel like the fact that I'm not into sex is weird at all, but if there's a whole fic about how it's such a BIG DEAL that someone doesn't want to have sex then I get really uncomfortable.

It's the reason I stopped watching highschool shows/sitcoms, because it always has to have that standard "omg, you've never been kissed/had sex, we must fix this right away or shame you into thinking you're some sort of freak! episode.

It's always a big deal in fic because most of the time the relationships are between an ace and a non-ace and not having sex with their partners will always be a big deal for a sexual person, at least initially.

I know. It's not really about that, but more of the attitude that the fact that they don't have sex in general is so weird and alien and they can't comprehend it and think they have a problem that needs to be fixed.

Obviously there will be relationship issues, but the issues I don't wanna see are when outsiders or the LI start telling this ace person how they're sexuality needs to be instead of accepting them the way they are. Especially when it comes to outsiders who aren't affected by this persons lack of sexuality at all.

One of the few fics about asexuality (actually a small series of fics) I read and enjoyed was just like that. It wasn't preachy or framed the ace dude as broken somehow, he was just a guy in love who had no interest in sex. And part of the story was about making it work with his very sexual partner, and also about things completely unrelated. ~Like life~.
