Yeah, it's sad but a lot of my sadness is not only mitigated by it being his own fault but also because of all the suffering he caused other people, especially Caroline.

Sadness? She lives forever! And kills whomever she wants! She was lucky!

Yeah! Best ever! Who wouldn't pass up such an opportunity? Stupid people. That's who.

(But seriously she gets deleted at the end so I was under the impression that GLaDOS is like a mutation of her, not really and completely her. That and her dialogue didn’t help either.)

sorta OT but I gotta say basically yeah I never really got how ppl think caroline IS glados, I always saw it as caroline was to glados as a document is to a folder :/

:o I'm not alone. That's cool!

I get how people can think that. It's just different people have different interpretations. :)

I was under the impression that she didn't necessarily delete Caroline--but that she'd rather continue her life as GLaDOS. If you take the turret song as canon, it implies Caroline was Chell's mother, or, at the very least, is actually a touching send-off to a friend. Hell, she even gave her a Companion Cube. I think she legitimately doesn't want to see Chell again, because Chell makes the Caroline part in her stand out, but she also doesn't want Chell to die. She could have killed her, quite easily at that point. But she doesn't.

Of course, you can take what she says at face value, too. GLaDOS also has good reason to believe she can't kill Chell, after all.

IA!

I actually felt more sadness than lols when he said he'd accidentally poisoned himself with moon rocks. :(

Ground up moon rocks? PURE POISON!

(Anonymous) 2012-08-19 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Portal secret, yeah! <3

Yeah, what was sad about him was that he had the potential to have a really good life. You could tell he became power-crazed in the end, or just plain crazy. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if he had succeded in being uploaded to the computer, but I guess things would have ended very ugly (or he would also ended destroying the facilities, or worse, the rest of the human race). But yeah, his actions pretty much destroyed a lot of lifes, who knows how many people died because of him.

And what he did to Caroline was unforgivable, even if it was clear to me that she cared for him a lot.

But still you can't help but feel sorry for him. That guy was hilarious in a crazy psycopathic sort of way, but then, who isn't that kind of hilarious in Portal?

Going off the original plans for portal 2, he'd become a crazy homocidal robot attempting to kill you.

Maybe it's something in the firmware...

(Anonymous) 2012-08-19 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
So, in the end it doesn't matter who is in the computer, everyone will want to kill you.

I guess that's what happens when you don't pay the programmers their Christmas bonus.

Remember how cave replaced most of the workers with robots?
and made the rest "test"?

I think he created people who really... really hated robots.

That's why they gave the robots the ability to feel pain, and want to read but only have one book.

They actually got into that in the new DLC.

It's mentioned here.

Oh, turns out I wasn't that far away from what would happen, especially when he goes "what if Aperture is the enemy?"

He's still hilarious, though. XD Thanks for the link!

Yup, apparently the transfer thing just makes you super crazy.

The entire thing is gold. You're welcome. :)

This is why Portal 2 depresses the hell out of me. NO ONE has a happy ending. Not Chell, GLaDOS, Wheatley, Cave, Caroline, anyone. XD

(Anonymous) 2012-08-20 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Thankfully we have fandom for that :)

i honestly felt bad for everybody in the portal story (cave probably the least, tbh, but i definitely still felt bad for him too). i think portal as a game was intentionally designed with a degree of humour, as most valve games are, but the actual story, past all the ~comedic relief, is really sad.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-19 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I tend not to think too much of it, or I get depressed.

So, maybe the moral of the story is "if you have a good sense of humor you could survive (or go happily into death) even the most horrific things life throws at you?"

(Anonymous) 2012-08-20 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Or at least turn those lemons into incendiaries.

IA, I found myself caring for and sympathizing with Cave quite a bit.

His life was pretty much poetic justice, considering he was making his money by performing medical experiments on anyone he could get his hands on. You just can't take him (or any of it) seriously, because he's more or less a walking dead-baby joke.

When bad people seem so completely oblivious to how awful they're being, I end up feeling kinda sorry for them when they get their comeuppance. :\ They seem so innocent as to why their lives turned out this way, it's like a dog that bites someone and doesn't know why he's being taken away to the pound.

Though I found the whole thing with Cave Johnson hilarious become he's like an evil version of my mother's boss in some ways.
