Yeah, it's sad but a lot of my sadness is not only mitigated by it being his own fault but also because of all the suffering he caused other people, especially Caroline.

(But seriously she gets deleted at the end so I was under the impression that GLaDOS is like a mutation of her, not really and completely her. That and her dialogue didn’t help either.)

sorta OT but I gotta say basically yeah I never really got how ppl think caroline IS glados, I always saw it as caroline was to glados as a document is to a folder :/

I was under the impression that she didn't necessarily delete Caroline--but that she'd rather continue her life as GLaDOS. If you take the turret song as canon, it implies Caroline was Chell's mother, or, at the very least, is actually a touching send-off to a friend. Hell, she even gave her a Companion Cube. I think she legitimately doesn't want to see Chell again, because Chell makes the Caroline part in her stand out, but she also doesn't want Chell to die. She could have killed her, quite easily at that point. But she doesn't.

Of course, you can take what she says at face value, too. GLaDOS also has good reason to believe she can't kill Chell, after all.

I don't think she actually deleted Caroline either. GLaDOS is a known liar and manipulator. I believe she sent Chell away because, as we can see with Wheatley, her body is corrupting to AIs. It makes them unstable. She only had a little time left before she lost it again and so sent Chell away. Weather that was because she consideres Chell as a friend, her daughter, or just someone she owes a debt to is up for debate and I don't really mind not knowing or not having a firm head-canon on it.

However, this doesn't have much to do with my belief that Caroline =/= GLaDOS. Caroline might have started off as the main consciousness in the AI but I think that over time, with the growing development of the AI system, the added "voices" in her head of personality cores, and the corrupting influence of her body caused Caroline to just become another "voice" among the many that was a part of the larger AI, GLaDOS.

I believe GLaDOS mutated, for lack of a better word, out of Caroline.

I was merely using the "deleting Caroline" line as evidence to support that the two entities are different.
