Once Upon a Time is one of those shows that you can really get into if you like it for what it is, which is not the best show ever but a fun and cheesy good time. I like fairy tale retellings so it was pretty easy for me to get into.

But no offense OP, so tired of Rumbelle shippers in the fandom, they give me the worst second hand embarrassment of any of the fans.

Why is that?
I've barely dipped my toes into the fandom, so I'm not familiar with it.

(As an aside... since I submitted that secret, I've picked up a LOT more ships.)

Probably because they write some of the weirdest fics and I've seen a lot of the Rumpel fans in general do some self insert fanart which just embarrasses me to no end. The Rumbelle fans are just kind of the crazier side of the fandom.

I haven't seen much self insert fanart--maybe one or two pieces--coming from Rumbelle fans, but there's one Rumpelstiltskin fan who draws or has people draw art of him and Rumpelstiltskin and hates Belle because she gets in the way of his self-insert ship. I thought it was interesting, because it's the first time I've seen a guy get their hate on for a character because it got in the way of their imagined sexytimes. And it's just as obnoxious as when girls do it. The weird fanfic I will grant you, although compared to something like Harry Potter the entire OUAT fandom doesn't even register on the weird radar.

I've seen a few self insert artists, and I think I might have seen the Rumpel fan you are talking about. Even just plan Rumpelstiltskin fans give me second hand embarrassment to the point I don't admit he was my favorite character anymore.

And I know the weirdness doesn't even reach that of levels that are in other fandoms, but I think the reason I took notice is because before Rumbelle the fandom was very small and tame. The Rumpel crazies started coming in slowly, then when Rumbelle happened it was just a huge wave of weirdness hitting the fandom everywhere.

I keep my distance from shippers when I can, but Rumbelle are the annoying ones who are hard to escape.

i'll take a 100 obnoxious rumbelle shippers over the extreme rumples and regina aplogists.
