Gone With the Wind. I can at least appreciate the movie for the awesome costume and sets and the pretty good acting, but the BOOK. Oh god the book. I had to read it for school and I hated it, particularly since the only character I felt sympathetic to dies in the end.

I also didn't like The Scarlett Letter, but when I admitted this to my creative writing and lit teacher he looked at me like he'd suddenly lost respect for me, particularly when I explained my reasons as "I didn't like the main character." ("But she's a hero" was his response.) I don't know if I just didn't "get" it since I was a teen when I read it--which could definitely be the case!--or if I just have different taste than him or what, but I've been pretty hesitant to admit how I feel about that book since at the risk of sounding like I'm some sort of...misogynist literature hater or something.

I've had the exact opposite experience with The Scarlett Letter, haha.

Ha...well, it's been a while since I read it and I'm not a super hardcore fan or anything. I just enjoyed it more than most of the people I've met, who mostly said that it was difficult to read. And also I think he's response to your dislike a little...pointless, I guess? Maybe that's not the right word but I think if I'd been in your position I would've just said "Okay? And?"
