Everything by Charles Dickens and Jane Austen. Their stories are generally interesting like if I see a movie of them or something, but their writing is bogged down with purple prose and boring passages of time where the characters do absolutely nothing.

Doctor Who. Any of it. The premise again is fairly interesting, but the show just feels so aimless to me.

Never read Dickens, but I sooo agree about Austen.

If you don't like Austen you'll probably like Dickens even less. Watch a movie adaptation of his books, you'll get way more out of it than reading them.

Oh god, Jane Austen annoys me so much.

The only time I ever gave up on the book and just read the sparknotes was when we were assigned a Jane Austen book. It wasn't a bad story, it just bored me to tears. I was never assigned Dickens but I've attempted to read him on my own and gave up. I respect them as authors but I'm sticking to the movies.

I couldn't get into Dr. Who either.

DEAR GOD YES about Dickens. I think he can't write a non-archetypal character to save his fucking life.

Louisa Gradgrind in Hard Times is heartbreakingly real. It really stands out because the other main character is such a Noble Poor it makes the politics in the book kind of ridiculous.

See, I love Jane Austen, but I feel how you feel about JA about Wuthering Heights. Like... the first page alone makes me want to chuck it out a window (and follow it with matches).

And I wouldn't ever judge someone for NOT liking JA, because you know... different strokes and all that.
