Lord of the Rings.

It's more the writing than anything else, because I've read The Hobbit graphic novel, understood it, and enjoyed it.

LOTR is one of my favorite books but I completely understand why people would hate the writing in it. Tolkien has a bad habit of rambling on and on and on about the description of how a city looks or something, and sometimes the pace just draaaaaags.

Yeah, this. I love LOTR, I'd consider it to be my number one favourite, but oh MAN it's dense writing! (And the pacing is... not amazing. Tolkien, seriously, I'd love to hear Shelob's backstory, but MAYBE NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BATTLE...)

Honestly, it's a slightly different experience (Faramir, why?), but I'd actually recommend the Jackson movies over the books for someone wanting to get in to it.

Actually, I probably would, too! I think I like the books a little bit more but the movies were really wonderful, and I think they did a good job of capturing the feel and spirit of the books even if they took some liberties with the material. Plus, if you don't like the movies that's proooobably a good sign you wouldn't like the books, so it saves you some time...

They were amazing :) Aside from a very few things (Faramir... seriously, Faramir is one of my favourite characters, so I was not fond of that change!), I think the changes they DID make worked perfectly. As much as I love, say, Tom Bombadil, it would have really messed with the pacing.

And exactly! :)

(Eeee only three and a half months until The Hobbit...)

I've made piece with the Faramir changes but I was disappointed since he was one of my favorite characters, too. I understand WHY Jackson made the change but I still don't LIKE the change he decided to make, sob..

(I KNOW I CAN'T WAIT, AAAAAH)

Drama, I guess. I did stifle laughter at Sam's, "By all rights, we shouldn't even be here!", since... truth.

(My friend and I planned to go to the midnight release in, ooh, back in January? Eee getting closer!)

Yep, the writing. Ugh. I've read it because my little brother loved it and reading it to him put him right to sleep; I don't feel the writing style is interesting at all.

Thisss. I think he had an amazing imagination, but he wandered off on tangents and never came back! It was so frustrating. D:
