Avatar & Titanic by James Cameron.
Inception & The Batman Trilogy by Christopher Nolan.

The Avengers (yes, I enjoyed it, but it's not a masterstroke of staggering genius.)

Steven Spielberg.

UGH YES, TITANIC. I didn't even like it when it came out, and I was too young to go in with anything but positive expectations.

Ahaha, ditto to Cameron and Nolan's movies.

I watched Avatar because someone Tivo'd it, and it was...okay. I care about plot in movies, so I didn't find it great. Titanic is the only movie that's ever made me fall asleep. And I'm not a huge Batman fan (nor a huge 'gritty reboot' fan.)

Spielburg is okay. I didn't like E.T., but I thought Close Encounters was pretty good. Maybe not timeless masterpiece good, but good.

Although that reminds me that I couldn't really stand 2001: A Space Odyssey.

TITANIC IS SO LONG. I have never physically sat through the whole thing. It's like three hours! And half of that is just the boat sinking! You can turn away from the tv (I know I have done this!) for a half hour and miss nothing plot related at all.

True to Avatar and Avengers, even if I actually enjoy the former a great deal, I know it's not totally groundbreaking in narrative.

I hate the Titanic and it came out when I was in high school. For all the money they give the man to make this 'masterpiece' you'd think they could find better writers.

Jack!
Rose!
Jack!
Rose!

For christ's sake I only felt bad for the supporting characters who died. I was hoping Rose would die as well after two and half hours of that crap.

Agreed on pretty much everything. I like some of Spielberg's stuff, but certainly not all of it.

Definitely Avatar, good Lord. That plot wasn't even trying.

Definitely agree on Avatar. I went to see it on an IMAX screen and was very entertained, but I felt no drive to see it again (whereas sometimes a movie just sticks with me and I MUST GO SEE IT AGAIN). I was really surprised to find out it had this huge following and people were suffering from depression because they couldn't go live in the movie or something. WHAT THE HELL PEOPLE!

Yes to the Avengers, I guess. I like it, but it feels like...a fan stuff where they mash together the most popular heroes, and pack it with action. Lastly tacked it with some kind of apocalypse story where the heroes bond together to save the world. The end result, for me, while I enjoy the action scenes a lot, the story and presentation was kind of...cheesy.

Titanic for me was alright, at least for that era the movie was out in my opinion. Not a fan of the writings of Jack/Rose romance, but I thought the original hype was from the real Titanic backstory which I guess gave this...fairy-tale?mystic?kind of vibe? I enjoy the movie, but when I rewatched it recently, the movie seems not to age well.
