You know what, besides the fact that the OC is an incredibly dumb show fto use as an example for the portrayal of, oh, anything, is there any reason to assume that the show creators were aware that Cohen is anything more than an established, recognizably Jewish surname? I'd even say it's feasible that the surname changed sometime in the past and the family are not cohens at all.

While you may be technically right on what makes an Orthodox Jew, not everyone is Orthodox or wants to be. Sometimes, it's better to just let people call themselves what they call themselves and not get pissy when you see them eating bacon-wrapped scallops. Up until the point where they are physically or emotionally hurting you or others, let them worry about how they practice their religion.

When i see 'Cohen', i think 'Cohan' (I forget that they're spelled differently) and think 'Irish'. George M. Cohan and 'Yankee Doodle Dandy'.

So who knows what Hollywood is thinking.

Well, since the creator of the show, Josh Schwartz, is Jewish, I think it's quite possible that he might know.
