Ugh, don't get me started on how several fic writers portray Steve. It is more of the lack of research that really gets to me though. It isn't hard to find information on American history from 1918-1945 or information about movie-verse Steve Rogers. http://marvel-movies.wikia.com/wiki/Steve_Rogers

In the past two days, I've read fics where Steve had never seen a movie in color, never seen a naked woman (he went to college for art- he would have studied/drawn naked people), he didn't curse or drink, his parents were alive when he went under the ice, Steve didn't know what a television was (they were around in the 1930s), and Steve had never heard of Mickey Mouse or Walt Disney.

I wanted to kiss the author that had Steve mention what is now called Tijuana Bibles (porn comics from the 1930s-1960s, many of which featured parodies of actresses or characters like Dick Tracy and Popeye). I would love a fic that has Bucky get Steve to draw the comics and he'd sell them on the street corner to make a buck during the 1930s. Then cut to present day when Tony is going through some of his Dad's old things and finds his stash of Tijuana Bibles- most of which were ones Steve drew. Tony confronts Steve about them one moring at breakfast with the rest of the Avengers.

Steve had never seen a movie in color,

But, but, he referenced The Wizard of Oz right there in the movie...

The Wizard of Oz was filmed in black and white and the Oz parts were colored later. Technically doesn't count.

The Wizard of Oz was released on August 25th, 1939.
There were movies and cartoons done color in the 1920s. Walt Disney's Silly Symphony cartoon, Flowers and Trees was released on July 30th, 1932 and was the first commercially released film to be produced in full-color three-strip Technicolor process. There had been two-color Technicolor films for several years before that. Mickey Mouse wasn't released in color until The Band Concert (1935- My grandpa remembers going to the theater to see Mickey in color.) Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released on February 4th in 1938. As someone interested in art, Steve would have gone- either with Bucky (and dates) or by himself.
Crud- that is another fic I want to read- Steve drags Bucky to go see Snow White.
