I got so much second hand embarrassment from that too, dear god. Anger, too. Ignoring the last 10 years of queer characters on television (including bisexual characters!!) just so you can pretend your fantasy ship should supersede what the actual creator/writer sees for the characters.

But I do ship them. I shipped H/D too, and that ship had very little chemistry in canon until book 6 if you ask me. It's more about how their histories and weaknesses compliment each other for maximum tension/drama. The slash-goggles fit, what can I say?

share me this 10 years worth of queer characters, please. preferably from fantasy/scifi genre because that's what this topic is about and truth to be told... that's what i mostly like to watch.

and they should also be among the main(-ish) characters.

LMGTFY

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LGBT_characters_in_television

Battlestar Galactica, Caprica, Stargate Universe apparently, Heroes, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Babylon 5.

I want more diversity too, but it's insulting to people who have already written these stories to ignore them.

... still not seeing much lgbt content on genre shows. I mean I loved Buffy and still love it but I'd want to get my queer on shows that are on the TV.

hmm well I'll fail you there, because I'm not a big TV watcher really. I actually couldn't tell you a genre show on TV that I like at all. But to be fair you did ask for shows in the previous decade, not ones airing right now. And Danny on teen wolf might not be a main character but his sexuality isn't a big deal and he has his own romantic subplot (his bf was in 2 episodes, and this show fails at consistency all over the place)

My point was that the "gay rights"argument would work a lot better if there was a history of queer storylines being forced off TV, rather than being accepted.
