Notes:

Important: I'm really sorry about this, but I accidentally clicked the wrong thing and deleted the submission post from last week instead of saving it. Managed to save the first page (25) of secrets, but the rest (a bit over 100) are gone.

If you submitted something last week (Aug 26-Sept 1), please resubmit it here and it will still go up this week.

The submissions post for next week is linked below as usual.

I'm hearing/seeing entirely too much about this ship lately. Is it good? I don't watch the show but heard people claim they could even become canon. I did a bit of research and read some fans saying they don't even have that much screen time together. So which is it? And is the show worth giving a try?

Answers to questions in order: Yes, it is good. No, they don't have much screen time together, although they have some good/fun scenes (anyone expecting them to become canon is delusional, in my opinion, because that would require some heavy rewriting). And yes, it's worth giving a try, even if the first season got off to a bit slow start.

Same anon as below, so I'm not a deluded shipper here, but..."rewriting," yes. "Heavy?" No. There've been hints that Stiles isn't 100% straight in spite of his massive crush from childhood (played for laughs, sure, but where there's smoke, there's fire), the only relationship we know of for Derek was thoroughly messed up (and fantastical creatures stereotypically have fluid sexuality), and enemies-turned-friends-turned-something-more is hardly a new concept.

I don't think it will happen in canon, but at the same time, there's nothing in canon, IMO, that makes it impossible or even that difficult for it to happen.

I agree. The people who push for it to become canon can be annoying, but I think with a slow build up over a season, it wouldn't be impossible. Stiles and Derek have good chemistry, and Davis has said that he put in hints of Stiles being bi on purpose and that he will being doing more scenes with both characters next season (though I don't think they'll be romantic scenes). While I don't feel they have to be canon, it isn't impossible.

AYRT. Oh, I didn't mean that kind of rewriting, sorry for being unclear (Stiles makes plenty of remarks about what gay guys might think of him, and how he could be gay etc.). I just meant that canonically Derek is more interested in beating Stiles up against the wall, steering wheel, or any available surface, and Stiles had no problems suggesting leaving Derek to die, or framing him for murder.

No exactly grounds for a healthy relationship, but then again Lydia and Jackson were pretty abusive and they were the ultimate example of "true love" in the finale, so what do I know?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-01 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I think most people see that as a version of pulling pigtails and protesting too much, only more "advanced" because dealing with werewolves, etc. Probably not the healthiest, but as said above, many fictional romances start off with the characters "hating" each other. So, really, that argument against it is the thing I consider the easiest part to hand-wave over.

Many people seem convinced that because the creator has acknowledged the existence of the ship in a positive manner and there has been some subsequent fanservice, it means they have an actual possibility of becoming canon. I'm not holding my breath. Not sure I'd even want it to become canon, really, even though I do ship thim.

They don't share much screentime, relatively speaking, but in my opinion it's very memorable and slashy. YMMV. I suspect they'll have even more screentime in the future, because they actually do work well together and to draw in (ahem, string along) all the fans waiting for them to become canon.
