I'm sorry you haven't found anything you like. It's not the best place for fic for me but I've found stuff. *shrugs* I doubt the Jydia is going to be any better. Slashers tend to be the eldest people in this fandom and the het-ships tend to be populated mainly by teenagers.

Really? I'm going against the current, then. I used to love slash insanely when I was younger and now I'm so much more into het. I do still enjoy Slash but to a much minor degree.

That said, Jydia is my OTP and I don't fancy Sterek that much, so the lack of fic is indeed, very disappointing.

I don't think all the fic is that bad..? Sure, there are some shitty ones like in every big fandom, but I've found some absolute gems too. I'm kind of opposite from you - I knew the pairing was popular when I started watching the show (for a while I actually thought it was canon), but was really disappointed with how little they actually interact on screen. However, the fanfic really made me love it much more than the show did.

I wouldn't read fic in this fandom without a rec list handy, or without having a specific thing you're looking for (like college AUs or something) to narrow down the search. Just poking around, yeah, Teen Wolf is youngish and grew really fast and that tends to lead to a lot of new writers. But there is actually quite a lot of really good, really thoughtful fic, fun AUs, and hot porn, so, I'm sorry you didn't find that?

It's also possible that the way you see the characters isn't the way that the fandom is trending, so it all frustrated you, which is a harder thing to solve for.

Seconding rec lists from folk whose taste you trust. The fandom exploded pretty quick, so the quality is all over the place (but big fandom = still a huge pool of awesome in there).

And also betting it's the last point that bugs OP.

Navigate fic with a rec list and a healthy appreciation for the back button. It's the best way to do it.

I have this theory about the "life history" of fandoms, and Teen Wolf/Sterek is definitely in the "some gems buried under a pile of crap" stage as far as fanfic goes. Hopefully that will start to shift as the show/characters are developed more and the fandom weeds out a bit of the less-than-stellar writers, but meanwhile I'll read the ones I do like and enjoy the onscreen interaction and squeeing with like-minded fans. They're too much fun right now to give up on entirely.

I'm hearing/seeing entirely too much about this ship lately. Is it good? I don't watch the show but heard people claim they could even become canon. I did a bit of research and read some fans saying they don't even have that much screen time together. So which is it? And is the show worth giving a try?

Answers to questions in order: Yes, it is good. No, they don't have much screen time together, although they have some good/fun scenes (anyone expecting them to become canon is delusional, in my opinion, because that would require some heavy rewriting). And yes, it's worth giving a try, even if the first season got off to a bit slow start.

Many people seem convinced that because the creator has acknowledged the existence of the ship in a positive manner and there has been some subsequent fanservice, it means they have an actual possibility of becoming canon. I'm not holding my breath. Not sure I'd even want it to become canon, really, even though I do ship thim.

They don't share much screentime, relatively speaking, but in my opinion it's very memorable and slashy. YMMV. I suspect they'll have even more screentime in the future, because they actually do work well together and to draw in (ahem, string along) all the fans waiting for them to become canon.

I've found a good amount of Sterek that I enjoy, but I think about every one of them winds up involving sex/porn so if that's not your thing I can see how that would be frustrating.

What I'm really upset about is the lack of Erica/Boyd stories because they're probably my second favorite ship. Any recs for them (aside from archiveofourown.org/works/484266, which I already read and loved) would be appreciated. :D

Uh, Look for familiar writers, follow their recs, don't be afraid to bail. Rinse. Repeat. Etc. Sturgeons law is the only thing that applies "universally" in my experience.

If nobody you know is into it or they're into something you hate (eg posessive behaviour) that sucks dude. Try twentysomething, the Faro fixer, Jebiwonkenobi, remainnameless, stillane... if the writing in your previous fandom is "universally" better than that... I'm interested?

I think you're being a bit unfair for two reasons:

1. Stiles/Derek is the most popular pairing in the fandom. Whenever there's more of something, there's more potential for bad!fic, unfortunately. Look at fanfiction.net, for example. I try not to hate on fanfiction.net because there are so many writers, so obviously it will be more difficult to find the fics that please you most - like finding a specific needle in a stack on needles.

2. The show is called Teen Wolf. Although there are many fans (myself included) who are no longer teens, it was created originally to appeal to that specific age-group. While it's not the case for all teens, I can at least say that I am a better writer now than I was then.

I've actually found a good balance of fic I like and fic I back-space out of upon reading a couple chapters.

OH MY GOD YOU ARE SO RIGHT
I am still trying though! But even fic recs turn out to be AWFUL. I can't. Some of it is SO VERY TERRIBLE INDEED. Hate to say it, but it's probably because it's primarily very young writers just starting out. Perhaps years from now they'll look back at these stories and cringe too???
