Notes:

Important: I'm really sorry about this, but I accidentally clicked the wrong thing and deleted the submission post from last week instead of saving it. Managed to save the first page (25) of secrets, but the rest (a bit over 100) are gone.

If you submitted something last week (Aug 26-Sept 1), please resubmit it here and it will still go up this week.

The submissions post for next week is linked below as usual.

Secrets Left to Post: 00 pages, 000 secrets from Secret Submission Post #296.

Re: fandoms that took you by surprise

How I Met Your Mother. I was looking for fluffy sitcoms to cheer me up during a really bad period. I got approximately a year's worth of nonstop fangirling.

I only checked out South Park to see what the fuss was about, given that they looked like fucking construction paper cut-outs. I watched one single 40-second youtube clip way back in 2006 and fell head over heels in love, six years and counting.

I was a Marvel Zombie who didn't give a fuck about DC comics (outside of the occasional Batman story) for ages, until one day I picked up some ancient Superman comics in my dad's closet that I hadn't read since I was around nine and fell so hard and fast I pounced on my computer and pretty much started steadily inhaling the DC universe (often through illegal filesharing) until the reboot was announced.

And while I had been a huge fan of Marvel comics for quite a few years before seeing the Avengers, I had finally force-separated from it and completely shut down my love of it for survival purposes a few months before, and in the lead up to the film I had no anticipation (I did not see a single trailer, view a single TV spot, look at a single bit of promotional material or speculation, google it a single time, or give it a single thought. The only exposure I had to the pre-movie buzz was because I was in the HIMYM fandom at the time and some of the people I followed on tumblr had posted Maria Hill stuff and made "Kids, in the summer of 2012 your Aunt Robin decided to join SHIELD" jokes. I also didn't watch Thor until two days before watching The Avengers (and hadn't seen Iron Man 2 since 2010 and had therefore forgotten everything except "Fury and Coulson are awesome"), so I had none of that background to clue me into the world-building aweseomeness. The only reason it was more than a "whim" to me when I saw it was because I got super-excited after watching Thor, and because I saw it being highly acclaimed in a review-blurb (I sure as hell didn't read the review though) front-and-center on the Washington Post homepage a few days earlier. But I saw it the first weekend home from college and I have been absolutely smitten and trapped the entire summer, and it's still not going away. Fuck Marvel. They shouldn't give us great movies unless they're willing to make comics that don't make me want to strangle people.
