Important: I'm really sorry about this, but I accidentally misclicked and deleted the submission post from last week instead of saving it. Managed to save the first page (25) of secrets, but the rest (about 100 or so) are gone.

If you submitted something last week (Aug 26-Sept 1), please resubmit it here.

The submissions post for next week is below as usual.

I'd post there, even though I'd love concrit--especially if I'm writing about a culture that's not American.

You want to see a website made that fails?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-06 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I know people who post fic on their journals with comments disabled, so you'd probably get quite a few.

so like

a site that looks exactly like all the old archival sites for specific fandoms? or individual author sites? which were pretty popular back in the day?

the problem with this logic is that the internet isn't exactly a zero-sum game. someone could easily post to both ao3 and your site.............

There's a difference between "isn't going to be hurt/offended if nobody comments" and "wants to actively discourage any reader with something to say."

Keeping barriers to online social interaction low is about openness, not entitlement.

I'd write stories; I wouldn't post them. I'd give them to my friends in RL, like I used to do back in the days when I didn't have Internet.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-06 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely would. As much as I love praise or getting helpful concrit, I've never really expected either. Getting either/both is nice, but posting to a comm or site where it's not even an option wouldn't feel like that much of a difference to me.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-06 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I would. I mostly write for tiny or on life support fandoms. ("Hey a new fic already? It's only been eight months!")

I won't lie, I care about feedback, but I *also* write for myself. In other words, I'm not going to post a story that I don't want to read. That said, I work really hard on my stuff, and the whole point of posting is to *share* - so I want to hear that other people are enjoying my work (or not). A website that disables it? I'm going to find somewhere else to post.

The only times I've said "I don't care about feedback" is in context to whether or not I'm going to write to try to entice as many possible readers as I can or if I'm going to pitch a fit because everyone is not in loooooove with my story. I'm not interested in that...but people who like what I do? Yeah. I want to know that I wrote something they liked and why they liked it. It helps me as a writer.

:: shrugs ::

And I admit, it keeps me writing fic...so the cycle continues and everyone is happy.

I care about getting feedback, and I'm honest about that. But not getting comments doesn't make me feel like I've wasted my time by any means. I'd post to a site without a feedback system, but only as an addition to posting on other sites.

While I like getting comments, for me, having a way to interact with other fans is the most important thing. I don't go on to become good friends with most people who comment on my fics (or most people whose fics I comment on), but it's one way to interact with other people in fandom, and sometimes it's a good ice-breaker when you do want to make friends.

I'd post to it in a heartbeat. I'm one of those nuts who has a separate journal somewhere where I post fic with comments disabled. That honestly sounds better to me.

I'd probably multi-post on that site and other ones. I can't help it, I just want to know what people think about my stuff. I like seeing people enjoy it. But a site like that would be useful for archiving fics wouldn't it? So I'd probably post it there too.

[personal profile] tamabonotchi 2012-09-07 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I mean it could be an interesting place to have as another place for me to hold my stuff, but I don't feel the need to do that when I have ao3.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-07 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
To be completely honest, I enjoy getting comments and kudos on the fic I write. I like hearing that someone liked something I did. At the same time, some of my favorite stories that I've written have barely been read by anyone, and that's okay too, because I reread them from time to time and I like them. When it comes down to it, I write fic because I want those stories. After a year or so passes I can't even tell that I wrote them anymore, which means that I can read them all I want. It's almost like having my own personal writer.

So, I really don't see the point of a no kudos no comments system. People can disable their hit counts on AO3, and I believe there is a way to ignore kudos as well somewhere in the options system. If they really want, they can post their fic to a comments lock post on LJ or DW or make an author site of their own.

There's nothing wrong with wanting people to enjoy what you write and enjoying when people tell you that they did (or opening a discussion in concrit). I think that overall there are less people that are interested solely in reviews/kudos than we might think, and, what does it really matter if they are?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-07 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
I'd probably join, ngl, though I'd probably only post there a few times before I either posted elsewhere/cross-posted, just to get over the whole 'SOMEONE IS GOING TO BACKHAND ME IF I WRITE SOMETHING*' fear I've got going.

*Not because something is problematic - just in general because the writing is that terrible.

I write fic for myself. I post fic for the attention. It's why most of the shit I write doesn't get posted online at all. *shrugs*

(Anonymous) 2012-09-07 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Considering I get so few comments/kudos on my fic, it wouldn't matter to me. That said, I actually kind of prefer sites like this. I find a lack of kudos/comments to be relaxing and allows me to truly form my own opinion of the sotyr without being tempted to see others' feedback. It's why I still visit Outpost Daria (which has been around for friggin ever).

I'd still post there as long as there are people clicking and reading.

But I also freely admit I like my ego stroked when and where possible.

Don't let your head explode, there.

[personal profile] naturedichotomy 2012-09-07 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Loooooooove getting my ego stroked, kthx.

If I had enough fics, though, I'd probably put together a site like this for myself just for simplicity's sake.
