I only like May-December pairings when it's slash or femslash. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY.

Same, but for me it's because het May/December pairings are almost always older male/younger female, and I always feel like there's more of a power imbalance and since I'm female, it's hard not to identify with the female character. I'd rather be able to identify with the older one.

I love you so much for including Cynthia and Mr. Preston in this secret. Curse you, Iain Glen, for your magical ability to make creepy Nice Guy characters swooningly hot. It's just his own dreaminess coming through, I guess.

INORITE? I was so conflicted while watching that mini-series. Like everything he did, the logical part of my brain was going "no no no no," while the other part was just stuck on, "Iain Glen, how can you be so seemingly steadfast and noble all the goddamn time?!?!?"

I'm all about cross-generation/May-December pairings, too. I often lose interest when characters are too close to each other in age.

Question! Why is it May-December? That always makes it sound, to me, like the older partner is on the verge of moving into a nursing home. Whether 'May' is meant specifcally as the 5th month of the year, ergo young-but-not-too-young, or as a stand-in for spring, December seems a bit harsh for all but the most extreme of pairings? How about May-October?

I have a thing for May/December if it's slash or femslash, but for het pairings I'm a huge fan of the young love, childhood/highschool sweethearts thing. I don't know why this is!

May/December romances are some of my favorite ships too. I think it just adds an interesting dynamic to characters that already have some fascinating issues (in my fandoms, at least, there are always issues, lol). It's often about revitalizing the older partner and bringing the younger one down to earth a bit. It's just plain enjoyable for those of us that still like old-fashioned romances and happy endings too, often enough. All about what your cup of tea is though, obviously, but basically - I hear ya, OP.

Don't worry, I like them, too. It's not a requirement though. But I do like them. *shrug*

Me too, anon. A ridiculous amount of my OTPs fall into this category. The only times I don't go for that type of pairing is when the characters are supposed to be May-December, but the actors cast are actually close in age...lol. (Do they think we can't tell?)

What if the pairing doesn't specify what month the romance is taking place? Or this code for something else? Considering that all these characters shown are younger girls with older men I'm wondering if it's the latter... *Googles* Okay, ignore me. At least I learned something new today.
