Who is this guy? If you don't mention his name in your secret, how is anyone supposed to know who is is or care that he died? He looks completely unremarkable, a thousand of him could die and no one would care unless you tell us what he did or give us his name so we can Google it.

Wow.

Congratulations for writing the dickiest thing I've read today.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
How is that response dicky? The secret-maker doesn't mention the person's name. No one is going to care about him if they don't know who he is.

Yikes.

Anyway, it's Michael Clarke Duncan.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-12 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Are you serious? If he's being featured in fandom secrets then he has at least SOME relevance to some kind of media. People who know who he is will recognize him. He's not some dude whose picture OP picked up from the street, he's an actor you just don't happen to know about. You don't have to be a dick about it.

Normally I'd never be this guy but I'm getting an "All black guys look the same" vibe from this comment. Way to go OP.

And I'm getting a "reaching desperately to sound right-on" from yours, so hey.

Are you poor and have no TV or see no movies? Are you a non-American? These I would accept as valid reasons for not knowing of him.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know who this is, but his creepy big evil-clown smile and almost-shut slit eyes creep me out. Eeeek.

(No, I'm not the troll who calls everyone ugly. I'm not saying he's ugly, just that his expression creeps me out.)

Who is he?

The anons who don't know who this is... is kind of depressing. This man was awesome and it broke my heart when he died.

RIP Michael Clarke Duncan (there you go, rude anons)

I was just thinking, wow so many people apparently haven't seen The Green Mile. It's one of the favourite films of pretty much everyone I know.

*hugs OP* His was the first celeb death I ever felt more than a moment of shock and sadness about.

All people do cope differently with death though, and not every case is going to be similar even for the same person, so don't feel too guilty about it? IDK what kind of relationship you had with your grandparents, but...sometimes these things happen. :/

I was really surprised to learn of his death too, OP. It sucks.

I'm still torn up about his death :(. He seemed like such a neat person as well as being a great actor.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-12 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I felt this way when Ledger died. When he became ultra-famous after The Dark Knight, I didn't care for his status but that day when it was revealed he was gone, I just...cried. I don't know why.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-12 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, damn! Now I know I've been working too much without a lot of time to be online. I didn't even know he passed away. *sad face* I loved him in Armageddon and the Green Mile.

I still find it a bit hard to look at his pic. He just seemed like such an awesome guy. The only good thing about the Daredevil movie, really.

All of his friends' and co-stars' tweets were getting to me. So many of them were really heartfelt. :\ And it doesn't help that AMC keeps airing The Green Mile nonstop.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-12 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
He died???

D: Jeez.....

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-09-12 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
...Okay I have collected my feels on this anon.

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you here. I think it because I've had to develop coping skills IRL that I haven't had to actually use in fandom. I rarely identify and care for actors, mostly fictional characters and of course fictional deaths are easier to process than real ones. MCD was one of the few actors that I really did like and follow news/interviews on a "real person" level about. I still haven't completely come to terms with the fact that he's dead and keep having these weird moments of depression when I remember.

My mom is kinda pissed about it but we've kind of been picking fights about all kinds of things this week so I can't actually gauge how hurt she really is about it.

Just... I don't really have anything helpful to say. Just know you are not alone with how you feeling and coping and that just because you handle different deaths in a different way doesn't mean you didn't love your grandparents.

Michael Clarke Duncan was a great man and will be sorely missed.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-12 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I was considering making a similar secret for similar reasons, anon, so don't feel sad or ashamed. Personally it was a one-two punch because I lost a close uncle that same week, and both affected me deeply. I regret that I never got to meet MCD in person, because supposedly he was such a cool guy in real life.

I didn't have the same reaction you did, but I had a similar feeling when Steve Irwin died. Actually, it was complete and utter denial until ALL the news stations were talking about it. ;~;

But yeah, MCD's death was also a surprise and I felt kind of D: at it. He's a great actor and it's sad....
