I was just thinking, wow so many people apparently haven't seen The Green Mile. It's one of the favourite films of pretty much everyone I know.

I haven't seen it and still know who it is. At the very least he's been in a lot of stuff, it's easy to have seen him. Sure it's also easy to have forgotten if you've seen him in something, but still... yeah. I don't know what my point is except that just because you don't recognize him doesn't mean you have to be rude about it with the whole "he's obviously not important" or "he looks weird".

I haven't seen the movie, but I have read the book. John Coffey was the big, stupid guy with magical(?) healing powers, right?

Maybe I'll watch it sometime. Is it really gorey (as I recall, the book was, somewhat)?

There's some implied gore/squick in the movie, but it's played down.

Yeah, and that. I figured if they'd read the book they'd be prepared for that part.

Same anon as above, it's not too bad for the most but THAT execution is pretty hard going. I was watching it for the first time with my sister at about 2am years ago and both our jaws were hanging open, plus neither of us could sleep once the film had finished cos of that scene and heck the film in general being sad/upsetting.
