I see you've missed the cadre of bitter Elementary "fans" who are clearly engaged in sad fannish warfare. Their openly stated aim is to stick it to obnoxious Sherlock fans by liking Elementary.

Little do they know, they're just pawns here. The only true winner is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself. Sitting in his mansion in Sussex, gleefully rubbing his hands together as more royalty cheques roll on in. :(

Yeah, I've definitely seen that. (The kind of Elementary fans you describe, not Doyle rubbing his hands in his mansion, although that would've been a sight to see.)
Maybe they're just a tiny part of the fandom, maybe they're not on tumblr (I've seen them on LJ) but I'm pretty certain I've seen some people stating quite openly that the main reason they were watching was to drink the bitter tears of Moffat, Cumberbatch and their stans.

I definitely was interested in this show at first primarily because the Sherlock stans had a massive overreaction to the announcement of Elementary and they behaved horrible. So I wanted the show to do well to spite them.

And then I watched the pilot and I thought it was great!

But when Moffat and some Sherlock stans are acting like a bag of dicks about Elementary, I do not feel bad about supporting the show to spite the assholes.

Yeah, adding my voice to the people who only got interested in Elementary because of the Sherlock stans bashing it. I wouldn't have cared otherwise, I'm not a fan of Sherlock Holmes in general.

But honestly? Now that I've watched the pilot I'm actually really excited. Speaking just of pilots Elementary impressed me a lot more than Sherlock.

Considering, from what I understand, they literally lined up around the places printing the 'comeback' of Sherlock [not selling it, just printing], and wrote fanfic, and generally pestered Doyle to bring Sherlock back, I'm betting he would just Rage!quit the internet/modern media in general.
