"Did I do something wrong?"
"But you seem so happy!"
"You should cheer up, there are a lot of worse situations you could be in, you know."
And I think a point here is also, if you show someone being depressed but you only ever have them being depressed over, like, attempted murder, then not as many people are going to identify with that, they're going to say "Well, I'm just an awful person and a wimp for not being able to handle what I'm going through when that person has it ten times worse." but if you show a person who, yeah doesn't have it all that bad but is still pretty fucked up, then more people can identify with that and say "My pain is okay, oh god someone else has been there too, this is legitimate."
I don't know. I'd be lying if I said "Fuckin' Perfect" didn't come out at pretty much exactly the same time as a pretty serious mental breakdown I had, so maybe my feelings are too strong about identifying with it and whatever, but that's just my two cents.
I find that video a bit difficult to watch now that I'm mostly better though :/ Triggery video is, uh, triggery.
Edit: If I'm not being all sad about it, this song reminds me of this American Girl Doll Music Video set to the song.

I'm also not sure if I agree that depression and bullying like this is over-represented in the media or in real life discourse. I haven't gotten that impression myself.
At the very least, I agree with you that there's a lot of misunderstanding over what causes depression and who can suffer from it.
I also think that people can be too quick to brush off any problems teens have as being insignificant. It's true that the teen years can be an emotionally tumultuous time for a lot of people even if there isn't serious depression or trauma, and that a lot of people look back on their teen years and and feel like some of it wasn't as big of a deal as it felt at the time. But it's not insignificant for someone who's in the thick of it, and young people can lack the life experience and wisdom to cope the same way that someone older and more experienced might. So I can't be annoyed with "emo" teens. Some of them are going through legitimately serious problems with depression or trauma, and others are still learning how to deal with growing up and all the complications that ensue. Either way, it's not something that deserves to be belittled.
