Re: Sex toys for beginners?
(Anonymous) 2012-09-19 12:50 am (UTC)(link)If you are thinking about trying PiV at some point, experimenting with penetration on your own will probably be helpful since you can find out what it feels like and figure out what you like without any worries about performance anxiety or whether you're paying enough attention to your partner while trying to simultaneously process new sensations. Personally, I didn't think I liked PiV all that much until I got around to experimenting with a dildo on my own and now I love it! (Your results may vary, but don't give up until you've given it a chance.)
If it turns out you don't like penetration with the toy all that much, then hey, you've still got a perfectly good vibrator!
Tip 1: Look for something that does not contain BPA or other potentially dangerous materials. 100% medical grade silicone is a good option, for example.
Tip 2: Something waterproof that you can use in the shower is nice. If you feel you need to hide the noise of the vibrator, the running water is good for that.
Tip 3: Use lubricant, especially with penetration. Make sure the lubricant is appropriate for the materials of the toy you buy. I think water-based gel or liquid should be fine for most things, and you can pick up a store-brand tube of the stuff for cheap down at the drug store.
