Oh! And I forgot--I really like the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger, too. It's a steampunk series featuring vampires, ghosts, and werewolves. There's a romance in there, but the main focus is on the fact that the main character lacks a soul and is also a Victorian lady secret agent solving mysteries with her vampire and werewolf buddies. (There are also queer characters in the story, including Alexia's vampire BFF Lord Akeldama, her werewolf husband's second-in-command [well, he's implied to be bisexual, I think], and a lady zeppelin mechanic starting from the second book.)
