5. I automatically think less of anyone who looks down on people for reasons like that.

8. ♥

22. Signed.

There's never any shame in hating Pocahontas. I'm the biggest Disney freak in my school, but I hate that movie.

[identity profile] kurachu.livejournal.com 2007-08-06 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
5. When I first played that game I put it aside to play a different game on another platform, and came back months later to it. I found it pretty boring, actually. D:

8. I think, at some point in every rper's life, we've all had a mary sue character.

20. My Big Fat Greek Wedding and all the jokes that continue to hit me afterward didn't/don't make me feel ashamed. I don't think that you should feel ashamed, either.

22. So are new fans bad fans? Mebbe I'm just confused.

lol. Yay, someone gets it!

10. Man, I used to watch Wishbone religiously... I miss it. :(

Me, too. :x

21. That is so cute, omg.

17. PASSIONS IS AWESOME

1. I know exactly how you feel. :/ A character I thought I'd like was totally ruined because the rper was only interested in roleplaying the ROMANSSSUUU....

(Anonymous) 2007-08-06 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Bad fans are bad fans and new-or-old shouldn't matter.

I don't know about most people, but perhaps the people you were talking to about the game used the wrong word to describe their feelings for it. I didn't find the game play confusing, I found it fucking annoying :D

[identity profile] asgaja.livejournal.com 2007-08-06 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
1: I wish I could say I have no idea what you're talking about but I'm sadly too painfully aware of it. >_<

[identity profile] wao.livejournal.com 2007-08-06 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
19: Agreed.

20: I think that is kind of worrying.

4. Queen Latifah is hot. ♥

10. Wishbone secret! :D I used to love that show so much.

21. That IS lucky. (Also, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost! Awesome.)

I AM SO JEALOUS. I love my mom, and she's into sci-fi and fantasy and so I've always wanted to share the squee with her, but instead of squeeing with me she feels the need to remind me that "it isn't real" if she thinks I'm getting TOO into it (... no really, mom, thanks) and not-so-secretly think I'm a pervert for reading (mostly slash) fanfic.

Like me reading dirty fanfic is ANY worse than her reading those "woman-travels-back-in-time-to-bone-beefy-Scottish-guy-in-kilt" books. Uh-huh, no. :P

[identity profile] luzerna.livejournal.com 2007-08-06 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
7. Forgive me, but how are those... not real icons? I mean, most icons are just saturated screenshots, maybe with some lettering or fancy lines, or simple coloured manga scans. If the people who do those aren't "real" iconists, please show me someone who you do consider to be one.

8. Thumbs up to you!

19. As I've heard it, it typically means the person in question takes the canon way too seriously and she harps on people who don't think of the characters the same way she does, which is the "canon", or hates people who write what-if scenarios instead of being needle-straight in line with the actual plot. And she pitches fights when her ideas of canon conflict with someone else's. That's why being called a canon nazi is usually an insult.

9. auaoeufhiomggg the Collectors arc was what made me fall in love with Neil Gaiman.
20. why? Do people actually care what race the people they talk to through fandom/the internet are, or something?

[identity profile] staticlights.livejournal.com 2007-08-06 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
5: Whut? I found it to be quite clear, and one of the easiest games to pick up on. o.O

[identity profile] held.livejournal.com 2007-08-06 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
17. OH MY GOSH, I AM GOING TO MISS PASSIONS TOO! i've been watching it for what seems like forever! it's a real shame it's moving to a company i don't have. i really want to know what's going to happen to all the random get togethers. plus, pretty and fancy make me die so hard.

19. off topic to your secret, but PACHELBEL'S CANON IN DLSKMDFLSKDNFLSKNDF. god, i had to sing that this year for a choral concert, and i HATE IT SO MUCH LKAMSDLKM. i still don't know all the words. laksdmlaknds.

As a Rper that has been in MANY RPG's I have frown so much at people who royally suck at a character. Then when I see the character again; I think of them.

They don't 'ruin' the character for me; but it's annoying.

(Anonymous) 2007-08-06 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm curious how you made your characterizations solid if you've never read any of the canon material.

[identity profile] bouncy-erbear.livejournal.com 2007-08-06 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
4. She's just a really beautiful woman and I love how she carries herself.
5. I understood the game...how is it confusing? I just found the thing BORING...
8. Hey. We all have to start somewhere right? Most people are probably guilty of making at least ONE Mary Sue/Gary Stu...they just don't want to admit it.

4. Yes. A million times Yes.

10. God, I was just thinking about Wishbone the other day. Along with Ghostwriter. (/random)

16. Pocahontas is one of those movies that serve as proof that Disney should probably stay away from history and classic lit. I don't know how any one who stayed awake during eighth grade US history can watch it and not go "...whut?"

But I always loved the artistic style. I like to watch it for the art and the music's not bad either. So yeah: not one of my favorites either, but not a major suckfest.

I think the mark of a good (read: sane) fan is to be able to NOT like things about the source of your fandom. I mean, what's the alternative? Mindlessly slobbering over every bit of it even if you know, deep inside, it was just not that good? You have taste and good judgement, don't be ashamed of it. It makes you more credible as a fan, imo.
