That's why I usually try to encourage people to be open to criticism instead of getting upset over it. It's also why I tend to be against the self-deprecation of one's artwork. Cuz man, when you actually like your stuff and want to hear what people think about, nope, they still only remember the you that ragged on your own artwork and lashed out at any criticism. :\

Maybe you should ask for some criticism or beta readers. Maybe that would show that you've changed, and you could improve your writing at the same time. If you're on a blog site maybe you could make a post talking about this and apologize.

But whatever you do, try not to regret the past and focus on trying to improve yourself and keeping yourself from relapsing.

I think a lot of it is people are told from a young age that bragging or having an overly healthy opinion of your work makes you look like a douche, but the other side of being a depressing self-deprecator is never really called out.

One of the most helpful advice I got in life came from an actress in a convention, here it goes :
"When someone gives you a compliment, the only graceful answer is to smile and say thank you".

Because acting self-deprecatory does tend to make you look like you think the person who complimented you has shitty taste. Replying to a compliment by a sort of insult is not exactly nice. Even if you do it because you actually feel uncomfortable with compliments because you're insecure.

This, so much. I'm pretty sure we all have insecurities about our work. But that doesn't mean they should be on display.
