To be honest, I was at first slightly disgruntled at your secret. Why? To me, the dolls don't really project a healthy image of being feminine. But then I was like, you know what, fuck it. It's not like OP is out there wearing purple lipstick, tube tops, and miniskirts.
So now I'm like, hey slow your roll, self. OP feels comfortable! What's to judge? Fucking nothing.

OP
(Anonymous) 2012-09-25 05:54 am (UTC)(link)I also wear baggy pants and normal shirts sometimes.
But before digging into the Monster High franchise I was conditioned to hate clothing that was considered feminine because apparently it made me look like a cheap sex toy or shallow, self-centered bitch.
MH is a really neat franchise full of unique characters with character flaws and secret fears. In that regard it is very different from other doll lines.
For example, there is a girl who always plays "the mean chick" because it is "expected of her" being a spoiled princess and all, but deep inside she is horrible insecure and paranoid about people stealing away the only person who truly loves her. That spoke to me and made me realize that MH isn't just about looking good or being girly.
It's about girly characters as people.
Re: OP
I'm glad that you found something that helped divorce negative connotations with dressing a certain way.

If OP likes what she's wearing, feels safe and comfortable in wearing it, what I think about her outfit means fuck all.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-25 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)I'm just wondering what you would think of such an outfit, since you considered it worth mentioning.

Like I said before, if you're wearing it, hopefully you like that style, and what you like is none of my business.
OP sounds healthy and comfortable. Good for her! I wish more girls/women were as confidant in their bodies as her.
You can be uncomfortable and unhealthy and dress in all kinds of ways.

You can also be comfortable and healthy in dress in all kinds of ways, too. OP dresses however she wants to dress and feels good doing it. Yay!

(Anonymous) 2012-09-25 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)This entire topic has set my teeth on edge. I don't actually think Monster High is a particularly feminist friendly brand, but a lot of the criticism of it, and, by extension, the women and girls who dress in similar ways or have similar interests, voiced here don't seem particularly girl friendly either (or at least not friendly towards certain types of girls).
