What I hate is when something gets licensed and even now I will still see someone moaning and whining about how "OMG it's gonna get dubbed and they're gonna BUTCHER it." Unless your show got grabbed by 4Kids or similar, then no, it's not probably going to be 'butchered,' and even if the dub is terrible the subbed version will still be there, unedited, on the DVD for you to watch. It's not the 90s anymore, when we were stuck with dubbed DBZ and Sailor Moon and at the time there seemed to be no chance of ever getting to see the unedited original. Outside of kids shows like Pokemon, most everything that gets licensed gets an unedited release, so panicking that your show is going to be completely ruined and edited into oblivion is pretty ridiculous.

I'm not going to use the word "BUTCHERED!11" but dubs do legitimately often completely misrepresent the series. Take funimation's Hetalia dub for example. It rewrote a majority of the dialogue, changed the overall tone of the series, and thus pretty drastically altered the characters' personalities. It's kind of a reverse 4kids in that instead of 'cleaning it up' they made it more 'adult and edgy.'

Of course the original version will still be there, but if you're in the fandom for a show like this, it CAN be frustrating because you get these people entering fandom and basing their characterization on the dub, and then sometimes expecting you to do the same. And it's not even a case of say, movie vs. comic book fandom, where there's an obvious distinction between the two in the mindset of everyone in fandom. This is nothing new in 'non 4kids' dubs either. I was in the Inuyasha fandom way back a decade ago, and the sheer amount of bashing and hate Kagome got because of her voice and dialogue in the dub was huge.

This! It never fails, every damn time an anime is licensed you get those same silly complaints. No joy at all that a cheaper translated DVD will be available for their favorite anime. Nope.
I cannot stand such ridiculous whining over something that hasn't even been released yet. They act like every dubbing company is 4Kids or Saban or DiC. Dub-only DVD's are pretty much a thing of the past. So if a show gets licensed by anyone else, in all likelihood it will be a bilingual DVD with both language tracks.

Of course, these days, it's more likely that an anime DVD will be sub-only. So I hope these folks are finally fucking happy.
