Disney just doesn't do parents (unless they are villains). You're singling out the mothers, but what can you really remember about the fathers? There are notably a few more developed characters, but they tend not to be complex. Triton is probably the most complex dad they ever did, and he's really not *that* complex. Stephan, Hubert, the Sultan, Maurice, the King, Mufasa, Fa Zhou...there are more, obviously, but my point is, most of them are just archetypes, not characters.

Mothers fall into two categories: heavenly or hellish. Fathers fall in to a different two: bumbling or wise.

Just pointing out Pacha and Chicha from The Emperor's New Groove. Both are pretty well-developed and also awesome parents, but special points for Chicha being super kick-ass while also tremendously pregnant.

But yeah, Disney parents tend to get the short end of the stick. Part of that is source material, but part of it is that the stories wouldn't work as well if characters had a parent to tell them what not to do.

Oh man, Pacha and Chicha are amazing. I absolutely adore the scene where they get the kids to go to bed by being extra sappy.
