That's sort of how I felt about Violet!
It was nice to see a teenage girl character who was an angsty teenager and wasn't portrayed as being an unsympathetic asshole for it, or in a really pretentious, manic pixie dream girl-y obnoxious way. She was just shown as a human being who was going through a hard time, and we're neither supposed to hate her or be fascinated by her for it, we're just supposed to sympathise and I can't express how much that means to me as an angsty teenage girl myself.
But yeah, Helen was a great portrayal of moms, too!
