Depends on the website for me. If it's something like AO3 or LJ where a '/' is fine, then I tend to look down on anyone who uses 'x'. But if it's some place like Tumblr or anywhere that doesn't really allow for '/', then as much as I still dislike it I understand it better. These days, if I see an 'x' on a /-friendly site, I'll still give that fic a chance on the assumption the author comes from a not-/-friendly site, but I tend to be much more critical of those fics as in my experience the not-/-friendly sites are...not known for the quality of their fics.
