It could be, but I wasn't even aware that NamexName was more common in Japanese fandoms for a long time, and I'm familiar with the convention from Tumblr, where having slashes in your tags can be a problem. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of younger fans who get into online fandom via Tumblr aren't as familiar with the Name/Name convention.
