Italian rammen?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-01 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Due to finances, my lunchbox can only afford rammen noodles at the moment, but I hate the taste of the little 'flavor' pouches that come with them.

I've got a kitchen full of (mostly) italian spices at home. Do italian and rammen go well together?

Or should I just take some PB&J's (minus the J) to work?

Cook your ramen, then drain and add to peanut + soy sauce, ketchup, and marmalade.

Eh. They're just noodles. You can pretty much do anything with them.

I don't like the broth packets much either. I don't see why you can't use the spices though.

I like frying the noodles up with a bit of oil, tomato, and onion though. also garlic sometimes. Then I just keep the leftovers in the fridge, and put it in a sandwich if I need an easy meal to take to work or whatever. sandwich ramen. ramwich.

If you can afford regular bouillon cubes and don't hate them just as much, you can cook the ramen with half of one of those. Ditto packets of onion soup mix - use about a quarter of a packet per brick of ramen. You can also use canned broth, but that's more expensive.

Throwing in a few vegetables makes it taste better, with or without the packet, but that might be hard to do in a lunchbox.

I just use a "spicy garlic" mix in my ramen noodles. It comes in a pepper grinder and has sea salt, garlic, and red pepper. Which is pretty much what I put on italian food, so... yeah, I'd say it goes together. Actually tastes a lot like a ... I think it was a Thai "garlic noodle soup" bowl that my girlfriend buys sometimes.

Sometimes I also add a spoonful of cheese dip and make sort of a spicy italian mac and cheese soup sort of concoction. ;)

I bought a cookbook for my house that is "101 recipes for ramen noodles"... I don't know if it's still available.

Free site: http://www.budget101.com/frugal/ramen-noodle-recipes-1548/

Hope there is something appealing and affordable!

You can also stir fry them with yakisoba sauce. I do this when I can't afford the yakisoba noodles, which is pretty often.

http://asiansupper.com/recipe/yakisoba-recipe has a recipe for the sauce, but personally since I'm cheap and don't always have it all on hand, I just use half&half mirin/soy sauce and pour in some sugar to taste. It's pretty good and I usually end up eyeballing the measurements at this point.

If you're tired of cooking noodles, crush them over a salad. Also, learn to make cheap bento items! They are fun and pretty easy. http://justbento.com/

I like to make tamagoyaki (little egg omlettes) and some rice, then throw in some steamed, pickled, or stir fried veggies on the side.

When I'm not making soup, I just cook the noodles, drain the water, and then fry them with some soy sauce and eggs.
